New to riding

July 12, 2009

This is my second week riding the bike. Have been out a handful of times to various trails. Only 2 times out with other more exp. riders. The first time was Sun July 5th with Dave, Brian, and John. We rode Great Brooks State Farm and had a blast. Personally it was the first real time out and was concerned that I would be holding the other riders up. And I did at times, but they were psyched that I was doing so well. I enjoyed a few nice downhill rides were I could "float" on top of the bike and just bomb down it. And for now am still getting used to riding these technical trails, rocks and roots. Seems like the key is, picking a line, not slowing down to much, and bouncing the front wheel, depending on the obstacle. We were out there for 3 hours and without water I was tired and sore.

The second ride with a leader was at Wompatuck State Park. Bought 3 water bottles, b/c I was too cheap to buy a camel back. Within the first mile, 2 of the water bottles jettisoned off my bike. We rode some nice technical trails through out. After about 3 hours we got to the new single track trail at prospect hill. What a blast, it is down hill single track with switch backs and berms. I am not sure how far we traveled that day, but 4 hours for me was a long ride. Bought a camel back today, being cheap is expensive as times!
Looking forward to a couple shorter rides this week after work.
