Late last month, Niner parent company United Wheels announced they were pausing operations at the brand. Though the announcement seemed to leave open the possibility that Niner might one day return, it appears that remaining inventory is being sold off, with a significant number of bikes now available for purchase at Jenson USA for 40% off.
Niner was founded in 2005 after founder Chris Sugai bought his first 29er and quickly found himself outpacing friends on regular group rides. The brand was an early adopter of the bigger wheel size and initially focused on rigid and singlespeed mountain bikes. With roots in California, Niner moved its headquarters to Fort Collins, Colorado, in 2011. In 2017, Niner entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and in 2018, United Wheels, based in Miamisburg, Ohio, purchased the brand. In addition to owning the Niner brand, United Wheels is the parent company of Huffy, Batch, and Buzz.
In April, Singletracks reported that Niner was attempting a comeback in 2026, with a new RIP e9 RDO full suspension eMTB in the works. The bike, featuring an all-new six-bar suspension design, was on display at the Sea Otter Classic and appeared to be fully finished. However, it now appears the bike will not see the light of day.
As of press time, Jenson USA has the following Niner bikes on sale, including hardtail, full-suspension, and gravel models. Most sizes are still available, though some bikes — like the RKT 9 RDO Eagle 90 cross-country bike — are beginning to sell out. And with the Niner brand on indefinite “pause,” it may be a long time — or the last time — these bikes are available.
