For many of us, if a ride isn’t recorded, it didn’t happen. Sharing rides on social media is one way to record a ride and share the stoke at the same time. Then again, sharing isn’t for everyone.
Tell us why you do or don’t share your MTB rides on social media in the comments below. 👇
I take pictures on rides with family and friends, SM is a good way to share them. After experiencing an unexpected loss I am very glad to have those pictures.
I began posting on Strava at a request of a friend. I travel domestically a fair amount and he wanted to see what trails I was exploring in case he was ever in those areas. I’ve posted riding possibilities at certain locations on FB pages for “aged” riders also.
I use strava...It tracks all my bike mileage for component wear. Plus, I can get live trail conditions from it, see new routes, and post all my other workouts like weight lifting, running, etc on it to get a picture of my total efforts.
I want my trails to remain uncrowded. Magazines and social media ruined surfing, windsurfing, and other sports much more quickly than if everyone kept their "see me" ego quiet.
Strava has always kind of intrigued me, but I make an effort to keep any info about me more specific than the cities I've lived in off the internet entirely. I know my rides show up on other people's social media sometimes though, whaddya gonna do.
Unfortunately social media has changed so much since it's inception. It's less about seeing what your close friends are up to and more about what the algorithm believes what you want to see. People are probably posting less mostly because social media has become an addictive toxic sludge. I'm currently working through the 12 step process to kick the habit but am having a really hard time moving past step one (for all the people working through chemical additions keep up the good work and best of luck to you! )
