Spent Memorial Day weekend in NC for some DuPont and Pisgah sweetness.
We rode all over the place at DuPont and I really don't even remember what trails we hit specifically, except the Cedar Rock Trail, which was freakin' BRUTAL. We found the Bridal Veil Falls after a while which was an accomplishment without a map. We just played it by ear and it all worked out.
On Monday we hit up Bent Creek, made the 4+ mile climb up to Green's Lick and attmpted suicide on the insane downhill. What a trip! Our buddy crashed hard on the very last jump and broke his collarbone and elbow. It was gruesome and we got it on video.

We headed up to Bear Creek in Ellijay GA Saturday for the first time this year. This is one of my favorite all time rides, and I feel bad for not hitting it up more often.

We drove up to the main trailhead as opposed to riding up the access road, which is a 2+ mile exercise in patience and boredom, not to mention it's all uphill. Starting at the trailhead also meant we wouldn't be wiped out as badly for the ride back down, which is the reason you go to Bear.
We made it to the Overlook in about 45 mins, which is a personal best for me. The ride up is uneventful and is a straight-out 4+ mile climb. There's no respite to be found, it is ALL climbing. Well, actually, there's a few dips and a couple of low grade descents, but you are so busy catching your breath from the climbing, you can't enjoy it.
We took a 10 minute break at the top and rode on around to the upper trailhead to catch the nasty singletrack back down to the main Bear Creek trail. This is a washed-out, seldom used, gnarley piece of trail that I probably won't ride again.
After that, we reset the computers and blasted down from the creek crossing at the gravel road all the way to the main trailhead. We only slowed to let climbing bikers pass and to say, holy hell that was fun. We made it down in under 20 mins. What a hoot! About 4 miles of some of the sweetest downhill singletrack you can find.
We splashed through the creek crossings and hardly touched the brakes anywhere. When we got to the car, we were soaked and laughing our butts off.
I love this trail.

One of the things we Woodstock people like to do is time ourselves around the super-fast Dwelling Loop at Blankets Creek.
Last year, before I shattered my thumb bone and most of the other bones in my left hand, I was turning what I thought were pretty decent laps at BC. My best time last year was 22:30 for a single lap. I thought I was rocking the world, dude.
Last night, me and R3 went over to BC, and felt like racing. We tried to stay consistent on the climbs and to really rocket down the descents.
We ended up turning a 19 minute lap, which for me is amazing. My second lap was more normal, but still faster than what I usually pull out there. R3 did another 19 minute lap, and my time was closer to 22 mins. (I would've done more laps, but the season ender of 24 was coming on and it was getting late. ;) )
After I broke my hand last year, it was 3 months before I could do anything. I couldn't sweat because it would screw up the cast and cause bacteria to get in the cut where they had to open my hand up to repair the mess. I gained weight, got flabby, and lost my legs and lungs. When I finally started riding again, I was lucky to turn a 30 minute lap at BC. It took me about 6 months to get to this point and I feel pretty darn good about it.
