When you are traveling from Lake Tahoe to Utah, it might be worth your time to hit Park City on the way through to Moab. Park City has some of the best trails in the west, Mid Mountain is beautiful, and White Pine Touring has some good bikes or try this site, [url:7k7g8bdf]http://mountainbikingparkcity.com/bike-rentals.php[/url:7k7g8bdf]. Just a suggestion and only if you have the time. Another is to hit Fruita, Colorado on your way out of Moab.
Otherwise it looked to me like you have a pretty solid schedule. Also, here is a mapping site of all the trails in Park City, Moab and some areas of Colorado. [url:7k7g8bdf]http://www.skidmap.com/[/url:7k7g8bdf]

It is great to see the number climbing again. I know out here in my area, the High School MTB Leagues have really helped get the younger generation involved in a big way. I am one of those parents who has tried to show my kids that Mt. Biking is fun and exciting. Both my kids love to ride the local trails and are starting to get to the point of wanting to ride the "big" stuff up in mountains. I give kudos to all those who are showing this great sport to friends, family and neighbors.

Nice! I love when these "once in a whenever" things happen, but I usually never have a camera to share. 😆

Welcome to the fickle community that is Mountain Biking…may your stay be long and fun!

    in reply to: Wildlife? #100166

A few years back I was riding in Park City when I came around a blind corner and into a young moose, scared the bejeezus out of us both, he went down trail and I went back up to the next connecting trail! 😆

Other than that experience it has always been a good distance between me and the wildlife, but I have seen deer, squirrels, chipmonks, snakes and a plethora of birds. Seen a black bear once when riding in Colorado Springs on Cpt. Jacks, but it was a good distance away.

I love the obstacles I can clear obviously, but I also like the ones that challenge me and make me a better rider! I really like roots and waterbars to challenge the handling skillz, rock gardens are fun too. 😃

in reply to: What’s everyone riding this weekend??? #96682

Doing the Jordan River parkway tomorrow so a buddy can get his new Rumble Fish II dialed in then planning a trip to Lambert Park in Alpine next weekend if the weather holds…stoopid bi-polar weather! 😏

in reply to: Getting my daughter riding singletrack… #95217

    Another +1 for the Specialized.

My daughter bought her own last year and has pretty much ridden the rubber off the tires, she is now ready for the 24" and I will be tuning up the 20" for her little sister. Great bike for the buck and this time of year easy to find year old models on sale!
Hope this post doesn’t hit you too late, but getting her on the trail is all that matters!

in reply to: Going to Moab in August! #97818

First part of August? Plan for some extremely hot weather, bring ALOT of water! Will most likely be very dusty down that way too that time of year, so plan drivetrain maintenance accordingly. Slickrock is fun, but can be challenging. Oh and it is not "slick" so don’t let the name fool you…lol. 😮 Otherwise, look into some of the local shops down there, poison spider is a good one, and they should have lots of info.

Its all part of "teh forums" etiquette to threadjack 😉

in reply to: Pissed Off #95334

Snapped chains tend to piss me off too! And they always seem to happen when you are facing a huge climb, miles from anywhere. 😈

in reply to: What style of rider do you consider yourself? #95700

I used to consider myself a XC rider, but now I guess I am more of a AM rider. I love to do the drops and the gaps, but not the huge DH type ones.

I started way back in 93 with a Giant Cadex, great hardtail bike with pretty decent specs for the time. Still have it as a frame, but went to a Mongoose (when they were still a bike shop bike) in 96, think it was the Hill Topper, respeced it to all XT components with a Rockshock Judy, loved that bike and rode it into the dirt, put a new Marzocci (sp) fork on it and sold it to invest in my first FS bike, a 1999 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Pro, respeced to all XTR and still have it to this day. Last year as a gift to myself I bought a 2010 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp, fun bike but haven’t put to many miles on it yet. So I guess what I am saying is buy what you like, they are all good!!! I love my Specialized’s but would consider any of the manufactures listed, though I still dream about owing a Ellsworth Truth, just can’t pony up that much money! 😆

in reply to: SRAM vs. SHIMANO #95145

I am an old timer, using Fat Billy’s reasoning. I am a Shimano fan normally, but just bought my first bike using SRAM components and liking them so far. Still a fan of the rapidfire trigger system but getting used to the SRAM setup didn’t take long, as it is pretty intuitive. I am interested in switching this bike to a 2×10 setup after this season so I will watch this discussion and others like it with great interest!

in reply to: Pissed Off #95245

I have to agree on the weather not cooperating with my wanting to ride. Of course most the "good" trails here are under several feet of snow still anyway, but the lower ones are still ridable. 😉

I also am pissed off at the people who think they need to close access to trails cuz they think they are the only ones who can "properly" appreciate it. 😈

Don’t forget the horizontal trackstand, which is when you can’t unclip in time and you fall over, still clipped in.

Ahhh, I have mastered this "skill!" 😆
