Cool….getting ready to go tear that old Rock Shox off there to confirm size. It will be nice to have that rig running again.

Not to get too far off topic but:

I don’t know if you’ve been to Garmish before, but it is a REALLY nice place. Especially when compared to some of the other military "resorts" spread throughout the world. You will enjoy youselves there. BTW, should you crave some American food, there is a Pizza Hut in town there.

Thanks for the pos. feedback on Germany. We are really excited about our visit. Wishing the kids could join us but they can’t miss two weeks of school/soccer. I’m hoping this trip is the fuel that starts my wife thinking about an overseas assgnment. We have been stateside her entire career and I feel like we are missing a golden opportunity.
I’m sure the folks at Edelwiess can recommend places to ride but do you have any recommendations for me?

Might need the pizza fix one night…good to know there is a little Americana close by. To be honest, we are both fired up to have local cuisine and also some indian food which we sorely miss….read a few reviews on TripAdvisor about a couple indian food places we might try.

    Thanks again…

Thanks for the advice….I was lucky enough to experience Octoberfest in Munich several years ago. What a blast….thousands of buzzed Germans singing John Denver songs as loud as they could…..priceless!!

Shipping an entire bike is like traveling with your golf clubs…it’s just ass pain. Maybe having part of my bike will make it feel like my bike back home….we’ll see.

    Thanks…

Funny you mention the Vulpines…..after poking around online this morning, I found that same tire and thought it looked like a good fit. Might give them a whirl after I beat up the Bonts that came on the bike. I look forward to your review. Thanks for the feedback.

No more NON-Camelback hydration products for me!
    My son has a kids-size Camelback…no problem.
My daughter and I have REI & North Face brands….both made by Nalgene I believe. As one poster mentioned, finding replacement parts for the Nalgene stuff is a pain. REI stopped using the Nalgene bladder in their pack so they no longer carry parts.
That said….I love the Noth Face Flight Series pack….good size bladder and plenty of pockets/room for most day-trips. I’m thinking of replacing the entire bladder & tubing with Camelback stuff to make my life easier.

Well. I picked up the Shimanos at the LBS today.
Since I’m not into counting grams yet, I figured they will fit the bill for a while. Plus I already have Shimano shoes set-up for SPDs. If the riding gets more intense as I progress, I might consider a change. Thanks for the feedback.

Cool….that seems to be the concesus over in the review section. I ran reg SPDs on my old bike but really want the flexibility of a platform too.
Any thoughts on the Crank Bros Mallet….has a cleat in the middle of a platform?

Oh believe me, I understand how fickle the assignment gods can be.
As she continues in her career, the options only get slimmer. It was easy to fine a decent assignment when she was a staff nurse. Now as a Nurse Practitioner and "almost" Lt. Col the list of open jobs dwindles quite a bit.
None the less, you would think 4 years hard-labor in west Texas would count for something. 😕

Yeah….you would think they would throw us a bone after 4 years in Abilene and 1 year in A-stan. I guess the guy my wife replaced got a "base-of-preference" assignment after his tour so there is hope. Last week was my first visit to Fort Collins and I must say I dig the place. Great size…tons of outdoors stuff and hot college girls all over the place.

I hope to get to Austin and San Antonio this winter. My buddy’s (how lives in SA) wife just left for Iraq so we are in the same boat. Need to get down there and check out some of the MTB options.

Ooops!! Just found a few reviews under the "Review" section…imagine that. Please bear with this noob!!

    Hey Hey!

Welcome aboard Singletracks and back to this fun and fit sport of MTB’ing. Glad to have you here with us fellow MTBR’s just out to have some fun. Glad to hear you enjoy riding with the family, it is always great to the family riding together on the trails. Something my family does all the time. Anyways, glad to hear you got that nagging hip problem resolved bro. Now you have endless trails to ride! BTW, I feel your pain when it comes to living in TX, not my paradise as well. One of the last states i would live in.

Well bro, we are wishing a safe and glorious return of your wife and wish all the best for you and all yours. The best of riding!

    Thanks for the kind words.
After visiting all the wonderful places we saw this summer, it was really hard to come back to Abilene. We’ve done 3 of our 4 years so I’m on the downhill side looking at parole next summer. Hoping the assignment gods smile on us and we are off to colorado or Utah.
