Okay so this <a href="http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/design-concept/jano-a-bicycle-built-of-wood-268061.php">prototype wooden bike</a> certainly isn't meant for the trails but what if it were? You can't get much closer to nature than riding through the trees on a piece of wood ;) <div style="text-align: center"><img width="496" height="452" alt="wood_bike_front.jpg" id="image328" src="https://images.singletracks.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/wood_bike_front.jpg" /></div> Seriously though, wood seems like an interesting choice for a bike frame since it is (according to the designer) 10 times stiffer than fiberglass and lightweight (though no info on overall bike weight is given). Not that anyone is looking for a <em>stiffer</em> mountain bike and I imagine the wood needs to be pretty thick (and therefore heavy) to avoid cracking as you land that gnarly jump. If you crash and scratch your frame you can just get out the sandpaper and have it looking as good as new. To make this thing trail-worthy perhaps you could add some jungle vine suspension or a seashell crank ;)

Mountain Bike Trails
New MTB trails in downtown Seattle

Okay so this <a href="http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/design-concept/jano-a-bicycle-built-of-wood-268061.php">prototype wooden bike</a> certainly isn't meant for the trails but what if it were? You can't get much closer to nature than riding through the trees on a piece of wood ;) <div style="text-align: center"><img width="496" height="452" alt="wood_bike_front.jpg" id="image328" src="https://images.singletracks.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/wood_bike_front.jpg" /></div> Seriously though, wood seems like an interesting choice for a bike frame since it is (according to the designer) 10 times stiffer than fiberglass and lightweight (though no info on overall bike weight is given). Not that anyone is looking for a <em>stiffer</em> mountain bike and I imagine the wood needs to be pretty thick (and therefore heavy) to avoid cracking as you land that gnarly jump. If you crash and scratch your frame you can just get out the sandpaper and have it looking as good as new. To make this thing trail-worthy perhaps you could add some jungle vine suspension or a seashell crank ;)
