About Me

Been around longer than I care to admit. Mt biking makes the whole world a playground.

My Bikes

1
I don't own one but I am a fan of E-Fat bikes. I live in a place that has hundreds of miles of forested area. Sometime in the early Fall all the gravel roads are closed. I ride a standard 27.5 until the snow hits and then there are months when having a little extra…
It will all be automatic transmission soon. Impossible to stop the progression. Sensors have gotten so cheap it is only a matter of time before the sensor data is linked to the gearing. Matrix was right...we are just a coppertop battery....
All my local bike shops sell beer, and/or do rentals and shuttles. I don’t really shop at my local shops much. I have always really enjoyed working on my own bikes and as local shops modified their business model more and more towards tourists I drifted more and more to online. With YouTube working on…

New chain and powder day for dirt. It is amazing how much easier it is to ride up hill when you have a chain.

I was about 30 feet to my rig when I snapped the chain off yesterday. I picked up the pieces and coasted the rest of the way. I just checked the chain,...

Is it possible to get the OLD STYLE chians **without** the "weak" Master Link?
I think the first and best upgrade for your money is buying some TOOLS! Being able to work on your own bike will make you a better rider. Bikes have become incredibly complicated but in a lot of ways easier to work on. The more you understand your bike the better. The money you save…

Messing with my kid... HA!

I wash my bike, clean the chain, isopropyl clean front and rear shocks, seat tube  and rotors after every ride, basically every moving part. It has become a zen thing and the way...

Golden age of trail building for sure!! In the last few years I have noticed a dramatic shift in trail building. More and more trails are looking less and less engineered and more and more natural. Capt. Ahab is engineered but it doesn't feel that way or look that way. The more and more the…

Necessary Evil, I ride trails that aren't super muddy but enough to be a problem. I don't really mind the mud but It is a pain when we stop to get something...
syd, I agree there are lots of decent brakes out there. The difference for me it comes down to ease of maintenance. The easier it is to maintain the more often I do it and the more my bike is running as it should.

I keep a lot of information on my phone, other than using it for GPS and 911 if there is reception, I also have a complete first aid book, edible plant guide, snakes.... and the smart phones today are amazing cameras. I used to take along a small camera but decided to just take along…
