Mountain Biking Southern Skyline

****   Add a review
#147 of 694 mountain bike trails in Utah
#3,929 in the world

This trail is much like the Northern Skyline--you will climb, climb and then climb--over 3,000 vertical if you go all the way up. While the vertical is a little higher than the Northern Skyline, the ride seem a little easier as the grade is a little less and the surface a little less bumpy. Look for great views of Mt Ogden and the Snowbasin ski area on the way up and then panoramic views of the Wasatch range and surrounding valleys once on top. Once you gain the ridge, there are numerous options, including further climbing to a couple peaks. Turn around when you've had enough. If you're an insatiable hammerhead, create the ultra-epic by dropping to the North Ogden Divide, then continuing up the Northern Skyline trail and Ben Lomond summit, then plummet back down either the Norhthern Skyline Trail or the Ben Lomond trail and loop the pavement back to your car.

Like mentioned before, this ride affords some incredible views, but you definitely have to work to get there. Some real stiff climbs, but a great ride. Real fun to take a climb to the ridgeline and then drop down to the North Ogden Pass. A sweet descent, somewhat technical and steep.

This trail provides some very epic views of both the Pineview Valley, and the Northern Wasatch front area. You will have to work for them, however. The trail is very well maintained (besides a few missing signs at some forks). If you start at the southern end, it is very long constant climb all the way to the peaks of the mountains. After you get to the top, you will then decend to the parking lot of North Ogden Divide. This is where the trail gets its "very difficult" rating. I had to walk my bike several times over the steep rocks. I started on the south side and went north last summer, this summer I will try it in reverse. Happy Trails All!
