IMBA-SORBA and CTHA have scheduled the following trail improvement days for 2011. Please try to come to at least one workday this year. If everyone would help once a year, we'd accomplish a lot. All workdays are scheduled for Saturdays, except where noted.
June 3 - 5 (work/camp/ride) National Trails Day
September 11 (Sunday)
Some of the projects that the USFS would like to see done this year include fixing several creek crossings to improve the footing and stop erosion, removing all of the old sign posts and paint blazes, closing a severely eroded cut-through trail at the Bull Mountain parking lot, and installing blazes & signs on the re-routes when they open. We'll also clear water turnouts around the trail system.
CTHA provides tools, as well as lunch and water. You provide the social aspect! These workdays are a great way to make friends. Everyone works at their own ability, and there is something for every age to do. A normal workday is from 9:00 to 1:00 - about 4 hours. Remember to wear sturdy, protective shoes, dress properly for the weather, and guard against sun damage, insects and poison ivy.
If you ride at Jake & Bull Mountain, please set aside some time in 2011 to improve the trails you enjoy riding. Bring a friend who’s never attended a trail work day before. We'd love to have you, and I guarantee you'll end the day with a sense of accomplishment and ownership. The next time you ride there you'll say, "Look what we did! Doesn't it look great?". Details will be posted on the SORBA forum and Facebook a week or two before each date.
