The Lake Tahoe Trail 100K will award 100 starting positions for the 2011 Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race. These starting positions will be allocated as follows:
Fifty (50) starting positions will be allocated based on age-group performance. The positions will be proportionally spread across age groups based on the age-group profile of registered athletes (e.g. if 70% of the registered athletes are men, then approximately 35 positions will be allocated to men). There will be at least one qualifying position per age group. The number of positions per age group will be posted no less than 48 hours before the start of each race.
The other fifty (50) starting positions will be determined by a random drawing among finishers who meet an established time standard. The time standard will vary from race to race and will be set such that it will identify riders that show the ability to finish the Leadville Trail 100 in less than 12 hours. Factors that may help determine the time standard at each race may include course distance and profile; total amount of climbing; and base altitude.
The time standard for each race will be posted no less than 48 hours before the start of each race. Only riders who achieve the time standard will be eligible for the random drawing to be awarded a starting position for the Leadville Trail 100.
