There are plenty of options for getting your bike to the trail these days, and some solutions seem to be more popular than others.

I have a couple of fork mounts in the bed of my truck on my utili-track. Works really well
I have a Kuat Transfer 2 – awesome rack for not a lot of money
It depends on where I am going to ride & how ambitious I am that day. The GF’s car is a hitch-style tray rack from Swagman. If I use a short-term rental they have Thule roof racks on them. Sometimes I take a transit bus and they have the racks on the front. And finally there are trails I can ride to.
I have two racks:
Cheap single bike clamps onto my towhitch and has two posts to hang the frame on.
Thule three bike bed which also clamps to tow ball. Modified (guttering) to take my fat bike’s 4″ tyres. Both over 10 years old now, still working a treat.
I have a Thule rack mounted on my hitch that holds 5 bikes. There is only my wife and I but we need the extra space because we love to take our grandkids – who now leave us in their dust – as they should. Thule has been a great rack although we go through the rubber straps regularly.
