A new ski resort in Park City, Utah aiming to open two winters from now, plans to offer “several new ski lifts allowing skiers and mountain bikers access to extensive terrain, both summer and winter,” according to a website for Mayflower Mountain.
The new resort is being developed by Extell, a development firm with a portfolio rich with luxury projects including the Four Seasons Vail, Hyatt Times Square, and numerous commercial and private properties around New York City.
Mayflower Mountain will be butted up against Deer Valley and share the same mountain, connecting terrain with the neighboring resort. We’ve reached out to a representative for the mountain to find out if there is any more information on the future trails.
Mayflower Mountain will have 4,300 acres of skiable terrain, sitting on a total of 6,800 acres, and will have 3,200 feet of elevation drop. Extell says that Mayflower Mountain is “poised to become a world-class resort.”
Mayflower Mountain will also have a resort village with multiple luxury and lifestyle-branded hotels, more than 1,000 private residences, and a hotel dedicated to vacationing military.
According to documents from Extell, the mountain has been vacant since the early 1970s, when mines at the site finally closed. The Mayflower site had been mined for gold beginning in the 1870s and Extell says they’re ensuring the site is properly remediated, as it was a top-ten gold producing mine at one point and has never been remediated.
Extell has donated almost five acres of subdivided land for the Conference Hotel which will be operated through the US military’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program. Extell says that they donated the land to Utah’s Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA), which facilitates land development for the benefit of military personnel. The Conference Hotel will have almost 400 hotel rooms, 55 private residences, and 60,000 square feet of conference rooms, ballrooms, and food and beverage establishments, according to a press release.
Plans for the new resort started in 2014 when Extell founder and chairman Gary Barnett, a well-known New York based developer, began assembling 6,800 acres of contiguous land parcels in Wasatch County.
Extell worked with MIDA, Wasatch County, and the public and has held more than 50 public meetings and hearings. Ultimately the master plan for the resort was unanimously approved by the Wasatch County Council, according to Extell.
Construction has begun for the Mayflower Mountain Resort, and lifts are planned for the 2023-24 ski season, so it may not be until the 2024 summer or later when mountain bikers can catch one of the new lifts.
