Pivot gives the Trail 429 more guts

Pivot’s trail bike, the Trail 429, which debuted last year was already a capable steed, with 29-inch wheels, 120mm of rear travel, and a 130mm fork. Now, a limited edition Enduro build will complement the rest of the builds with a burlier, 140mm fork, a larger shock, wider wheels, and a mashup of Shimano XT/XTR components.

“The limited-edition Trail 429 Enduro replicates the custom builds of hard-charging Pivot employees and customers,” says Pivot. The Trail 429 Enduro adds a new color called Battleship Grey, which will also be added to the other Trail 429 builds. The limited edition Enduro build will retail for $7,600. Canyon shaves weight off the Neuron with CF SLX build

Canyon put the Neuron, their 130mm travel, 29er trail bike on a diet with a new build option. By using a special 40T uni-directional carbon fiber, they shaved 250g off of the frame alone, while increasing the tensile strength.

This Neuron CF SLX 9.0 will boast top-level Shimano XTR components with the newest 1×12 drivetrain, a Fox Float DPS Factory shock and Fox 34 Factory fork, with DT Swiss XMC1200 carbon wheels. All together, the bike weighs 11.7kg, or 25.7lbs, according to Canyon. Canyon has built a WMN variation for women as well. MSRP is $6,650. Visit the Canyon website for more info.

Trade in, trade up program with ENVE back for a limited time

Photo: ENVE

Carbon wheel makers ENVE are confident in their products and want riders to know how their wheelsets feel compared to others. ENVE launched the ‘Trade in, trade up,’ program, a while back, and have reintroduced it for a limited time.

ENVE will accept their own used wheels or a wheelset from a competing brand and issue a credit toward a current model ENVE wheelset. The wheels must be in rideable condition and must be a 26″, 27.5″, 29″, 650B, or 700C wheelset. If consumers trade in an older ENVE wheelset, they’ll receive $900 towards a new ENVE wheelset. For a non-ENVE wheelset, buyers will get a $600 credit. See more here.

Wolf Tooth releases the EnCase storage system

What once was a revolutionary design by OneUp, has turned into a competitive market with more options than a rider can shake a handle bar at. Wolf Tooth now have their own incognito tool storage system that is stashed inside the end of a handlebar.

The catch with Wolf Tooth’s version is it seems friendly for straight and drop bars, and won’t need any fancy installation procedures.

The EnCase System has 14 different functions, and includes a spoke wrench, a valve core wrench, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8mm hex bits, a Phillips and flathead screwdriver bit, T10, 25, and 30 Torx bits. There’s also a chain tool and tire plug kit. The EnCase retails for $120.

North St. adds hydration capability to Pioneer hip pack

The North St. Pioneer bag is one that we have reviewed in a few different ways as it’s very a versatile bag, although it always lacked the ability to attach a bottle to its main compartment. North St. has remedied that with a new strap, designed and manufactured to be as durable as their bags are. It fits standard size water bottles with a cinch strap up top to keep them seated, and costs $30.

The Bentonville Big Sugar Gravel race registration is now open

Gravel is booming these days, and of course, so are competitive events for the discipline. The Big Sugar Gravel is the newest contender for grinders and registration is now open. Big Sugar will go down in Bentonville, Arkansas on Oct. 24, 2020. There is a 100-mile course – which is actually 109-miles, with 9,000 feet of climbing; more mountainous than most would think for the southern state. There is also an 85-mile course with 4,500 feet of climbing. Get more information here and grind on.

Titanium Valve Stems by Lindaret

We thought this idea sounded ridiculous, but Lindaret has a good reason for making titanium valve stems, and in fact, it’s not about gram savings. If you’ve broken a valve stem in your life, and understand the somewhat short life of one, then read on.

Lindarets titanium valve stems are claimed to be four times as strong as an aluminum version. They have inexpensive replacement cores and gaskets and straight, large diameter bores to ease inflation. Most importantly, they come in a handful of colors. Lindaret is selling the Traben Titanium Tubeless Valve Stems for $40 for two or $75 for four on their website and at Amazon.com.

Sidi introduces the Defender 20 trail shoe

The renowned Italian cycling shoe manufacturer debuted a new trail shoe, the Defender 20. A ratcheting cable closure system creates a secure fit while the upper is said to be breathable and manufactured using a “green” material. The Defender 20 is a clipless pedal shoe, though it also appears to be capable when it’s time for off-the-bike scrambles. MSRP: $225 (available online).
