A group of about 45 mountain bikers were in Leadville, Colorado early Saturday morning to start the race that would have taken place this past weekend based on videos posted to Facebook and reports from CBS 4 Denver and the Ark Valley Voice. Leadville 100 race owner Life Time officially cancelled the famed event back in May “for the wellbeing of our community as well as yours.”
Videos posted over the weekend show Leadville race founder Ken Chlouber firing a traditional shotgun blast to start the unofficial gathering of riders.
2020 competitors had the option to request a refund for this year’s race, or to defer entry until 2021. The next Leadville Trail 100 MTB race is set to take place August 14, 2021.
