  • 21km climb to Vrsdic, our highest mountain pass here in Slovenia. You climb 887m to 1611m.

Also hike a bike all the way from Baska to Crna prst, where you can do downhill afterwards. Very steep, very technical.

For Trail/AM/enduro rides I use Fox Launch Enduro pads, I am really happy with them. Very comfortable, I pedal with them without knowing they are therre, very good breathability.

Thank you so much for the replies so far guys, much appreciated!

Mike, thanks for suggestion, but short travel XC style bike is no go. I have a HT at the moment as well as borrowed   basic full suspension bike without hydraulic disc brakes with coil suspension and I am very much underbiked for the terrain I am and I intend to ride.

I was thinking more towards the trail bikes. I really like YT Jeffsy 29 since I am a big boy(I need large frame with 29 wheels since I am 183 cm – 6’0) and al version with that black and teal colour finish looks so sick. Unfortunately Canyon Spectral comes in 27.5 wheels but it also looks so sick in stealth black colour. Capra 29 has 160 mm susspension but I find a bit bummer because flip chip doesen’t make such a big difference in geometry. Canyon strife on other side looks also so amazing in enduro racing team or in that bright lime yellow colour and its shapeshifter technology looks solid since it switches HTA from 66 to 67.5 wich is 0.5° more than Jeffsy and the rear susspension goes from 160mm to 130mm. Also weight is no issue for the bikle as I am used to pedal my current bikes that are quite heavy(mya HT ias 13.5 kg, my full suspension has 16.5 kg) and I have no problem pedalling them uphil for few km on gradient greater than 10%. Even to get back from the valley to my home on the mountain you climb 300m and the gradient is about 15% for 2.5 km.

I come from <Slovenia, a small country and mountain biking is farely new thing here but the whole country is just pure nature, with 65% of the country being forests and we have a lot of mountains, especially the Julian Alps and Karavanken mountain range to Karst and seaside region to Panonic plains. We have quite some bike parks like Kranjska Gora, Krvavec, Vogel, Rogla, Maribor Pohorje, Cerkno etc and really endless natural trails in the countryside, you just have to ride outside the cities and towns for mere minutes. Personally I never go to bikeparks, I enjoy too much in the countryside wich is the most of the country. We even have slovenian bike trail wich extend all over the country total lengh of  1900 km, devided into 41 shorter one day trails and you can still take side tracks and go to the other mountains that aren’t on this trail plan. Just pure nature! 🙂

in reply to: Should I wear a helmet for biking? #240636

For 90% times yiou ride the bike nothing will happen. But you have 10% when something WILL happen. I feel so may times on my mtb in thge woods and until this day I NEVER hit my head/helmet but I had huge crash 3 weeks ago when my helmet was literally torn off my head, luckly I didn’t kit my head or hit my helmet on the ground. But your arms or legs can heal, your head and brain traum/damage can’t.

Hey guys, new one here on forums. I’ve been riding on 2nd May on my local trails and one moment I was riding very steep and very loose terrain(compackt dirt with very sharp loose rocks/stones over it). Wanted to slow down but the brakes didn’t do shit and when the brakes grabbed the track my last wheel got blocked completely and went sideway. I’ve flew over rear tyre diagonaly so I didn’t hit bike frame or handlebars, tried to catch myself but i hit my knee very hard, and my shoulder very badly, fractured my upper arm on two           places but luckly nothing broke  or moved apart. My upper arm and ellbow are still bruised and hurt but my knee is healed completely, I am wearing a brace for my shoulder now. I came with speed of 24 kmh(15mph), the speed and impact was so great that my helmet was literally torn off my head. The strap unpinned next to the chin pin. The head was hit by the helmet, but I didn’t hit head or helmet on the ground, helmet has only scratch on the visor because it tumbled on ground afterwards. I layed on my back for few minutes before I stood up, grabbed my helmet, put it on handlebars, grabbed my bike, wich othervise undamaged) with my left arm, if I only touched bike with my right arm it started to hurt even more. I needed about 20 or more minutes to get back home(I was 500m away from my homne) and then my family member took me to hospital and now I have to wear brace until next week when I have check up. This is my first fracture in my whole life. Been riding bmx since 8 years old, road bike, hardtail and now fs.
