Mountain Biking Greenland Open Space

***   Add a review
#1066 of 1,346 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#10958 in the world

The trail configuration is a lollipop. Majority of the trial is double track with a few single track sections. There is nothing technical on this trail. There is about 500 feet of elevation gain. There is some sand on the trail but not much.

This is a good trail to ride in the winter. There are very few trees and the trail is relatively flat, but there are some hills to climb. With this in mind, the trail drys out fairly fast.

Getting there
Coming from Monument Colorado, head North on I-25. About 5-6 miles North of Monument take exit 167. Turn left (west) and go under the interstate. You will now be on Greenland Rd. Follow this road for about 1 mile and you will reach the destination. About .5 miles into the 1 mile road the road will make a hard left turn toward the south. The road will run into the Greenland Open Space.

Excellent trail for beginners. Not technical and just a smooth ride through the open space. There are some hills and ascent sections but nothing crazy. Not crowded when I went on a weekend in May.

While you can get some miles here, the ride's not very interesting of its own accord, espcecially since it's totally exposed and withing sight/earshot of I-25. This trail's greatest virtue is that it can be a good way to add miles in conjunction with the more interesting Spruce Mountain.

A great little workout. Good clear double/single track that is packed down. Some loose dirt, but mostly solid. A few fast sections, and some good little climbs.

    Watch from horses.

Greenland open space can be one of two things. A nice calm after work ride if your more on the experienced side and have some decent stamina. Or two, It can be a hellish experience of deceivingly steep climbs that seem to suck all the momentum out from under you. I've had both experiences lol. Overall its a great place to take beginners since theres no rocks, roots, etc. But they should be prepared to definitely get their lungs and legs working. A good workout I like to do is pairing greenland with mount herman and spruce mountain for just under a good 20 mile workout.

Ride greenland and spruce meadow and spruce mtn all together, and it makes for a pretty good ride. About 25 miles combined.
