Jamis is debuting a new suspension platform, dubbed 3VO, on two new full-suspension mountain bike models. The Portal, a 130mm travel, 29er/27.5+ trail bike and the Hardline, a 160mm, 27.5/26+ enduro model will use 3VO suspension, which stands for Three Variable Optimized.
Jamis says the new platform will minimize pedal feedback and chain growth, while improving small bump compliance. The company also claims that the advantages of the suspension are available no matter which shock the bike is running. The design makes use of a virtual pivot location that Jamis says will stay in line with the drivetrain throughout its travel and keep the suspension active no matter what. The Jamis Portal and Jamis Hardline
The Portal is designed to be a capable trail bike, with a 67.5-degree head tube angle, and a 74.5-degree seat tube angle.
The Hardline’s enduro geometry sports a 65.5-degree head tube angle and a 74-degree seat tube angle.
Jamis hasn’t said if their older models, the Defcon and the Dakar, their current 160mm enduro and 130mm trail bikes respectively, will remain in the line-up, or be replaced by the Hardline and Portal.
Aluminum models will be available in the summer and carbon models will follow in the fall. Pricing is unknown at this time.
