From Georgia to California, it was another big month for mountain bike trail openings. From re-builds and re-openings to massive new networks, there is a lot more to explore this month.

From Georgia to California, it was another big month for mountain bike trail openings. With re-builds, re-openings, and massive new networks, there is a lot more to explore this month. Many of these projects promise to add additional mileage in the weeks and months to come, so as always, stay tuned!

Butters Trail @ Fringed Hill (Nelson, New Zealand): Named in memory of Bernard “Butters” Simmonds, a Nelson Mountain Bike Club member who died mountain biking in 2020. A portion of the funding was provided by the Santa Cruz Paydirt program.

The Creeks Recreational Trail (Jackson, Georgia): Phase one of The Creeks trail network opened this month with four loops offering a total of 10.75 miles of singletrack. The trails make it possible for riders to connect to the popular Dauset trails and Indian Springs State Park for a massive day of riding.

Explore Park (Roanoke, Virginia): Explore Park outside Roanoke just added a new advanced trail called Voyager.

Grand Hogback Trails (Rifle, Colorado): The first six hand-built miles of a planned 18-mile trail system opened this month.

Grapevine Trails (Madisonville, Kentucky): Eight miles of trails at Grapevine Lake were re-opened / re-developed this month. Get the full details in this feature story about how the trails were built.

Hood Mountain / Lawson Trail (Santa Rosa, California): The Lawson Trail in California re-opened to limited access this month following the September, 2020 ‘Glass Fire.’

Iron Hills Trail System (Cedar City, Utah): The Iron Hills Trail system, located on BLM-managed land, recently added a skills area and wooden trail features.

Lakeside Loops (Greenville, South Carolina): Lakeside Loops opened in June with three machine-cut trail loops.

Mill Pond (Plymouth, Indiana): The 2.9-mile Mill Pond trails opened at the end of May, and there are plans to expand the trails in the future.

Prospector Trail @ Powderhorn (Mesa, Colorado): A new blue-rated jump trail called Prospector just opened at Powderhorn Mountain Resort.

Redhead Mountain (Chisholm, Minnesota): Redhead Mountain opened last year with 15 miles of singletrack, and another 10 miles were added this month.

River Mountain (Little Rock, Arkansas): This professionally-constructed, 11-mile trail system features a skills area and trails rated from beginner to expert. Look for an in-depth trail report soon.

Slate Creek (Kamas, Utah): This five-mile, directional trail system is designed for beginner to intermediate riders, and is located in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
