Life requires vision, preparation, discipline, exploration and adventure, passion, taking risks, taking on challenges, overcoming one’s weaknesses, giving of oneself for others … I find all these things in mountain biking. Some rides are primarily just a good time (high speed thrill for me). Other rides are deeply satisfying, especially those requiring long arduous climbs that press you to your limits. I think the rides that do the most for me as a whole person are challenging rides, exploring backcountry alone — just me and mountain kind of rides. The rewards are high. For me they are physical accomplishment and reconnecting with nature, the Creator and whom I am as a person.
