After seven years, the Transition TransAm hardtail is back with updated geo and matching 29er wheels, plus compatibility with the latest standards. The chromoly steel frame is designed around a 150mm fork up front and is available in two different finishes.

Transition TransAM geometry

The Transition TransAm features a slack 64° head tube angle and a fairly long 485mm reach on size large frames. The 76.5° seat tube angle might not seem very steep for a modern mountain bike, but remember this is a hardtail. Given the lack of rear squish, riders will find the pedaling position to be quite upright and efficient.

Judging by the 425mm chainstay length, the TransAm also promises to be quite playful on the trail. And the 50mm bottom bracket drop places the center of gravity on the low end for an in-the-bike feel.

Frame features, builds, and pricing

Transition positions the updated TransAm as a bike for “the rider looking to get back to their roots.” Fortunately it’s not lacking all the latest creature comforts, like the ability to run tires up to 2.5″ wide and the newest SRAM direct mount drivetrains.

The Transition TransAm has the ability to run 29″ or 27.5″ wheels, though it appears initial builds feature 29er wheels only. (Buyers can choose to purchase the TransAm as a frame instead.) Sliding dropouts offer the ability to set up the bike as a singlespeed as well.

External cable routing and four bottle mount bolts round out the feature set. The Transition TransAm will be available to purchase through Transition dealers and online in a blue or chrome finish, with complete NX Eagle builds priced from $2,599 and frames from $799.
