Direct-to-consumer bike brand Canyon has named REI an Authorized Service Partner (ASP) in the United States, offering mechanic certifications and the ability to deliver enhanced customer service for Canyon bikes, including the brand’s electric models. The program is available in Southern California, Denver, and Washington D.C. beginning today, with nearly 200 additional REI locations offering Canyon service by the end of next year.
“Working with REI allows us to dramatically expand our service ecosystem, making it easier than ever for our U.S. customers to access high-quality maintenance, service, repairs and small parts,” said Jaclyn Mayer, Senior Director of Customer Experience at Canyon, in a press release.
While rare, some buyers have found their local shops are reluctant to work on bikes from mail order and direct-to-consumer bike brands like Canyon. In the past, bike sales accounted for a large portion of bike shop revenues, and many owners have struggled to find ways to encourage in-store purchases as more and more sales move online.
REI shops have always offered service for Canyon bikes, though this new partnership promises more streamlined warranty service and better access to Canyon-specific parts. Offering 20% savings off all bike repairs with an REI Co-op membership, the brand appears to be working aggressively to increase its service footprint.

It's really no different than if a person purchased a bicycle at a different bike shop. They should treat all customers and bicycles the same.
