If my recent trip to Whistler taught me anything, it’s that kids today are shredding harder than ever. The future of mountain biking is looking bright. To make sure those little rippers become big rippers, they’re going to need some armor. That’s where Dainese’s new Scarabeo line comes in.

Dainese Scarabeo padded shorts

The Scarabeo (Italian for beetle) line consists of four pieces: knee pads, elbow pads, padded shorts, and full torso armor which offers elbow, shoulder, back, chest, and side protection. All pieces in the collection use an impact absorbing foam as is commonplace today, and all are rated to CE EN 1621 Level 1 standards. Many competing products don’t meet that level of protection and are instead rated for “indoor sports” or aren’t rated at all.

Knee and elbow protection

Perhaps the most unique feature of the Scarabeo shorts and torso protection is their ability to grow with a young rider. Dainese calls the system Ribbo, and it’s a simple concept: inside the garments there’s a ribbon that can be trimmed twice to expand them up two sizes.
