Thanks. It’s interesting about the shadows when using a bar light with the helmet light. I’ve noticed that too. Makes a big difference in in depth perception and judging the roughness of the terrain. My setup is currently: 2300 lumen (Wiz XP3 on the helmet) and I occasionally use a bar light, 850 lm USB style light (L&M Urban 850). The latter has limited battery life at full blast (1.5 hr). Wondering if more light on the bar would be better. So far it’s a decent setup.

Just stumbled on this thread while searching for information about using heart rate monitors (HRM) during mountain bike rides. I read some mixed messages above about their utility. I just got one (and a bike computer/GPS) and am looking forward to using it as a more quantitative way to gauge my riding effort and maybe do some training intervals on my mountain bike. My friend told me I would get bored of using the HRM. He said once you know your HR for any given effort, the HRM becomes irrelevant because you can just go by feel and know roughly where your HR is at. I can see some truth to that but I still like seeing the numbers on my bike computer. Am I wasting my time with a HRM?
My son has a dropper post on his XC race bike.

Here is a famous one in Santa Cruz, Emma McCrary trail (EMT), ~6900: https://www.strava.com/segments/4800253
And the EMT connector trail called U-Conn ~4970: https://www.strava.com/segments/982591
People often connect EMT and U-Conn.
