We all have our heroes in life. Some are folks we know well, others are celebrities, and still others are imaginary (we’re thinking of you, Tony Stark). Mountain bike heroes are similar. Sometimes it’s the friend who first introduced us to the sport, other times it’s the athlete who rides faster, farther, and with more style than we could ever imagine for ourselves. It could even be the advocate who works tirelessly to make sure we have great places to ride.
Tell us who your mountain bike hero is!
Bonus question for the comments or Discord: Why is your hero a hero to you?
Tinker Juarez. Just keeps rolling!
Yeah, he is amazing. I started in the sport later in life, his accomplishments are more relatable to me than the kids at the top end of the sport.
The talent of Pat Smage and Chris Akrigg… Very astute riders.
I M my own hero life is an individual sport coming a long way riding now at 65+ I really do not believe in hero’s some are just a tad better than others at everything…
Jeff Stevenson in the Columbus area built one of the coolest skills areas and beginner trails you will find at Alum Creek State Park. He had the vision, spent countless hours working on it, he organized trail days, he raised funds for materials, he encouraged others to take initiative and help on their own, he made it happen. Now thousands of people (literally, there are trail counters) have enjoyed his work and introduced their kids to the sport. You don’t need mountains to mountain bike, but you do need trails. This guy made it happen.
