The epic Trans Pyrenees stage race (Transpyr) just announced they are adding a new eMTB version of the iconic coast-to-coast race, dubbed the E-Transpyr C2C. The seven-stage E-Transpyr C2C will cover the same course as the original, requiring riders to be self-sufficient as they are timed on each segment.

Each race stage averages 100km (62mi) in length with 2,500m (more than 8,000ft) of climbing. With bikes limited to 250w, riders will need to strategically limit the use of pedal-assist since there will be just one neutral charging station along each stage route.

Race organizers think this new eMTB race offering will expand the event to riders who may have considered the classic Transpyr too difficult. The Transpyr C2C will take place June 10-16, 2018.

This certainly isn’t the first eMTB race on the calendar, nor is it the last. Bosch sponsored the Boogaloo electric mountain bike race series at Big Bear and Vail Lakes in California last fall, offering $3,000 and $2,000 prize purses, respectively.
