Mountain Biking Sheep Creek Trail

****   Add a review
#44 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
#3,362 in the world

The trail has a few interesting spots (rocks, roots, etc.), but mostly it's pretty simple and straightforward. A pretty good climb, especially the last few hundred yards to the lake. Pretty brushy in the lower section, but opens up nicely with some nice single track. Absolutely beautiful area up there. You can jump in the cold lake for a quick rinse off before descending. Since there are grizzly bears in those mountains, don't ride alone and be careful.

Challenging trail. For an advanced rider, this trail is 95% - 90% rideable. Beautiful scenery, beautiful non-motorized trail. Again, for a fit, intermediate to advanced rider, this is a must do!

This is a very challenging trail. Most riders will end up hiking the majority of the 2800 ft. climb. It's close to seven miles up to Sheep Lake with some tough climbs, many of which are made even more difficult due to large rocks and roots. The lake is pristine and provides an ample reward for the hard climb. The descent is excellent. The rocks that made the climbs difficult on the way up provide for a fun and somewhat challenging descent.

Great ride to get away from it all. Not many bikers ride this trail. Not all of it is biker-friendly (overhanging brush in the lower section), but once you're out of that, enjoy. Watch out for bears!
