Trail Description
About this trail
The trail drops over 700' in one mile down a beautiful canyon from Captain Jack's (at the bottom of the tubs) down to High Drive. It comes out on High Drive maybe 200 yards below the new trailhead of Palmer Trail (marked Red Rock Loop on the ground) on High Drive. It makes a great link from the Upper Gold Camp trails to Palmer Trail-Section 16 and the Red Rocks Open Space trails. Tight switchbacks, steep, loose, rocks, root drops and one scary rock rollover that could seriously hurt you.

Review: Sadly, Sesame Canyon is permanently closed to all users, due to greenback cutthroat trout plan. I know this little drainage runs into Bear Creek, but I would really like to see some data that shows that this trail significantly (statistically) and substantially (ecologically) added to water turbidity and lowered water quality to a harmful level for the greenback. Hopefully they have collected data, and it is significant and substantial. Without seeing any data I have to wonder, how much sediment is entering Bear Creek through Sesame versus say the north side of High Drive. Sesame was such a beautiful trail. It seems there could have been another way to manage any issues, other than a closure.

Review: Fun, pretty technical.

Review: Great fairly technical one mile downhill. The trail is narrow throughout and steep in many places. The upper third has some fun tight switchbacks. They are slightly rutted in places which actually adds to the fun imo. The middle third and bottom third are mostly a little less steep, but there are a few technical sections. Most notable is the rock face rollover (near a little waterfall). There is a narrow little "line" just to the right of the tree on top and to the left of the steep bank down to the creek. The margin of error is minimal; the entire line is chunky; and an outcome of pain and suffering is likely for most.
