Trail Description
About this trail
To access the trail, go through a gate.

Section 13 is a mostly smooth singletrack lollipop, with one cutoff trail that cuts across the loop. This trail climbs through the dry, open lands up into the trees, and then turns around and bombs back down the hill. The descent (going counter clockwise) is very swoopy, with tuns of small berms to keep your fun & speed up!

Overall, this trail isn't very difficult, but it's still a ton of fun to ride. Bonus: it stays pretty dry all winter long.

Updates (10/11/11): The lower loop has now been named, Lambachops. The upper loop is named Hotshots. \

Review: First time exploring this trail and it was a lung buster for me but so worth the climb. Very rocky but I made it out alive.

Review: Was great but ride this trail taking left turns or it is all up hill and the downhill isn't much. Left is the only way to go!

Review: First time out here and had difficulty following the trails. They are not well marked and seem to dead end. We spent a couple hours out there and did have a good time. Some beautiful terrain and good views. It will not be a place for me to stop at again in the future.

Review: This is a fun little trail with some entertaining, flowy, singletrack. However, there's nothing truly outstanding about this trail, aside from the fact that it stays dry all winter long and is close to town.

While I gave both Section 13 and Oil Well Flats 4 stars, Oil Well is on the high end of the 4 star spectrum and Section 13 is on the low end. If you've already ridden everything out at Oil Well and are looking for something new, you should definitely check out Section 13!

Review: I am a beginner to the sport of mountain biking. I bought a bike two weeks ago and decided to ride this trail as I was visiting family in Canon City. As a total beginner I found this trail was difficult for my skill set. At first I had trouble with the gradual climb and found myself walking the bike in certain parts. However as I got used to the bike, I was able to keep my balance more and had a great time on this trail. I would rate it as intermediate and say that this is a great trail for anyone looking to improve their skills.

Review: Was in Canon City for the day and this was the closest trail to our hotel. So I packed up the bike and headed out. I rode the loop both ways. If you take the loop clockwise (turn left at the T) then the climb is steeper and the downhill on the return side lacks flow. If you take the loop counterclockwise (turn right at the fork) then the climb is longer but more gradual and the downhill on the backside has quite a bit of flow and is therefore more rewarding. This trail is a fairly good workout, has some nice little downhill sections and boasts great views. A word to nubz; the climb in either direction will push you and be careful coming down.

Review: This is a nice little jaunt through the pinion hills below the mountains. Although I marked it intermediate, that's just because it has a long climb and some techy spots. Overall, however this trail is pretty novice-friendly as the climb is gradual and the techy spots are short, easily walked or inviting to a new rider to try to improve. A couple warnings--the trailhead is actually on the opposite (south) side of the road from the pullout. The gate by the pullout is not the entrance to the trail. Once through the gate opposite the pullout, take the right fork of the singletrack--the left quickly deadends into a subdivision. Finally, there are numerous forks on this trail--it's not a simple single loop. I didn't explore all the forks, but they look like early bailouts to shorten the loop, which might be nice for the novice rider.
