Mountain Biking Round Valley Recreation Area

#85 of 111 mountain bike trails in New Jersey
#10,883 in the world

This is the Xterra "King Of The Hill" bike racing course. It's a mixture of rocky paths, single track and fire roads. There are a few long, technical, grueling climbs that will be challenging to even experienced riders, down hill through rock gardens and one really sweet single track section. Speed freaks beware: control your speed along the single track section as there's a drop off filled with thorn bushes! - ouch! Trail Map: http://greenbrookracing.com/kingcoursemap.html

Some really tough and somewhat technical climbs that seem to drag on forever, perfect for someone who wants to get better at climbing. This place gets real intense at points and there is one climb where you have to do a hike a bike, but overall wonderful system for a nice workout.

Round Valley, I been there twice already and looking forward to continue going. This park can go up to almost 2,000ft elevation. The park is huge and have different terrain. Excellent for mountain biking, but remember some area you will be hiking with your bike due to the inclination of hills in some part of the trail. This park is something serious. why I give it 3 stars is because there is a $10 entrance fee weekends and $5 weekdays for locals (NJ Plates), I don't care about the money but more about why the trails has poor maintenance, also no guides/instruction on how to do the trails properly. Also need more bikes trails and features with so many acres and properties. Don't get me wrong, I will continue going but probably once or twice a month. I recommend the park if you serious about going up hill on your bike.

I used to ride around the reservoir twice a week 20 years ago. It's a lung and leg buster. Also a bike buster if you try this trail with a cheap bike. Anyway, unless you're in top condition, skip this trail. It will wipe you and leave you stranded 6 miles into the woods. Happened to me with a potato chipped rear wheel (nice Mavic) on a 95 degree day. One of the worst days of my life lol. And if you are in great shape, don't bring a riding buddy who's not. They will hate your guts a mile into the ride. Been there, done that too.

Steep long climb, a section of rocky switchback, single track, ample parking and a reservoir.

If you start at the boat launch area and follow the trail around the lake, you'll be riding through some sweet single track garnished with some fast root systems. Follow that trail and you'll end up at the designated recreation area where you can hop on the red trail. Really intense workout but not too technical.

Wet conditions Sunday 6/21/15. Will stay wet and slick for a few days.
Blue trail is hike-a-bike to the top, not a trail that can be riden on ascent.

Not long on miles, but the vertical feet provide some of the best 'true' mtbing in Jersey. Most riders choose and out and back, but you can add some road miles and circle the entire reservoir. If you didn't bring your climbing legs, no worries as there are plenty of bailouts on the camp road.

Not that much fun. Too many steep hills to climb. Not technical at all

If you're looking for a lung blasting workout, this is perfect. Personally, I found it very difficult; this was too many steep climbs for me which took a lot of the fun out of the ride. All I could think of is what I was going to have to face on the way back. Not a lot of interesting technical riding, unless they were after the point that I turned around and headed back.

Some tough climbs, but virtually no singletrack. Only one trail thats basically an out and back

Some pretty long climbing, at least by eastern standards, but otherwise not that challenging
