Mountain Biking Red Tail Trail

*****   Add a review
#4 of 114 mountain bike trails in New Hampshire
#547 in the world

This is one of the sweetest downhills around. Great switchbacks and nice flow. Unless you have superhuman leg strength, shuttles are the best way to get more than a couple runs.

Hopped in the trial near Cranmore and found a few spots a bit challenging but overall, excellent ride!

OK here's what I did... Get someone to shuttle you up to the trailhead on Hurricane Mtn. rd. Beam down hiking trail till you see a right hander going down(Red Cap). enjoy the awesome techy NH terrain as you wind down towards 302. Blast back onto the paved road for 1/8 mile or so to enjoy what being like a car is...Then, stop at the Mom and Pop at the bottom (Vista Bev.) and liberate a couple crafty bottles of local fizz. Stick these in your pack and ride back to your Motel pool, and enjoy a sip-n'-swim. Now that's a vacation, brother!

Follow the link below for an awesome highlight video from the 'Red Tail Trail' in Conway, NH! If you are looking for epic mountain biking in northern New England than Conway, NH is the place to be, and 'Red Tail Trail' is one of the best trails to hit! Red Tail is mostly ridden as a downhill trail dropping 1,200' from Cranmore Trial to Hurricane Mountain Road. Though you can ride up, most people shuttle up to the top and blast down through the rooty, rocky, and swooping trail. The entrance is about .2 miles from from the intersection of Cranmore and Black Cap trails. The trial takes 12 to 15 minutes from start to finish, so this is merely the highlights, but every inch of this trail is a blast! If you are ever in the area make sure you hit up Red Tail! I post a new video every Monday, so be sure to subscribe for more! Link: https://youtu.be/Esjz966VEI4

Worth the effort, nice addition of some tabletop features and larger burms near the end. Every season I come thru North Conway I'm impressed by the constant addition of new trails in the pudding pond/ sticks and stones area, but Red Tail is a must ride if you have the chance.

Great trail. Big up hill climb but worth it for the downhill. Well marked for the area. Will be back next time I am in NH.

Really nice technical trails like I love it. The flow is awesome and trail are well maintained. Just be careful, I saw a bear while I was going down, but those trails worth the Detour ;)

sick downhill; fun route is to park at the bottom, go up the kettle ridge trail, make a left at the cranmore trail and then make a left down the red tail
trail. get a trail map of the whole area at Red Jersey Cyclery.

Really fun trail, good to climb and descend. There are just a couple sections that are extremely bony and feel like they'll rattle your fingers off. Some work on select sections would make this back into a 5-star trail for sure.

Awesome down hill! But you pay the piper to get to the top of this great descent. 2 miles of granny gearing to the top and you're almost spent. But what goes up must come down! Great trail!

great, great trail to bomb down over and over again !!!! riding back up though every time makes for a long tiring day, BUT is very doable..definitely worth the slog back to the top..you can combine this with trails that go over to cranmore mtn.and to black cap (which has AMAZING views..) i can easily spend many hours here..well worth the trip for anyone that is wondering...park at top of hurricane mtn. road...be careful though if you ride road back up to top, i always stay on red tail trail and avoid the pavement !!!!!!!!!!
