Mountain Biking Pipe Dream
#36 of 693 mountain bike trails in Utah
A North/South route laced between the private property that is the town of Moab and the Moab Ridge standing on the west side of town. Skirting through the rough foothills below the cliffs this trail is built through some improbable terrain. All singletrack, this is classic Moab riding. Full of grade reversals, some steep grades & tight corners. With an amazing amount of rock work and armoring this trail has taken a lot of manual labor to put in. The lush Moab Valley is below you, the spires of Arches N.P. one direction and the snow capped La Salle Mtns the other, there is plenty of scenery to look at. Taking your eyes off of this trail for any length of time in order to check out said scenery is not really advised due to the exposure on most of it. Although very new this trail is quickly becoming a favorite of the local crowd because of its close proximity to town. Can be done as an in & out (double mileage), shuttle or ride the road back for a loop- any way it’s a decent ride.

North end; From Kane Cr rd turn west onto aspen ave and follow it to the end. Trail starts directly across Doc Allen dr.
South end; Heading south from Moab turn west on Angel Rock rd and follow it a couple blocks to the end. Turn right (North) on Rim Rock Ln and follow a couple blocks to the end.
There are a few neighborhood spurs onto this trail, the one at the west end of Jackson st is just about right in the middle however parking is limited, parking in town and riding up is recommended.

I needed a quick ride to break up the monotony of several hours of driving. This trail was just off the highway so I gave it a go. Glad I did. Just the right amount of interesting terrain and technical challenge to suit me for an hour on the bike. Can't wait to get back and do the sections I missed!
Thank |Awesome trail, nice and technical. Great singletrack hugging the side of the ridge. Did it as an out and back, close to 10 miles total. 10 miles that you gotta use your brain for. Nice that it's right in town. Went out on a Saturday and saw maybe 5 people. Go for the "no dab" challenge!
Thank |Being so close to town, Pipe Dream is great for a quick warm up for a week of riding ahead or as an add-on after an epic day elsewhere. Riding from south to north nets an elevation loss, but this is no downhill. Short punchy climbs and tight switchbacks are punctuated with fast, flowy downhill sections.
Thank |Great hour long pedal from town. Can be ridden either way although riding back towards town is the most fun in my opinion. Some technical spots and good views of Moab. Nice warm up or short ride for the day you get into town or the day you leave.
Thank |I had a great time on this rough and rocky trail. This was my very first ride in Moab and it definitely wasn't a disapointment. My biggest recomendation would be to not bring your less technical savy Girlfriend to this trail, start her on something a little easier... ooops
Thank |Since this is accessible from about a half a dozen points in town, I thought this would be a relatively easy ride. While it's not as rocky as most Moab trails and is actual singletrack and not slickrock, that still doesn't mean this is easy! Steep climbs and descents, sharp switchbacks, a few rocky sections, and some crazy-serious exposure and narrow trail the entire way make for a relatively challenging ride, even if it isn't technical per-se. Awesome views of the La Sals and the town of Moab!
Thank |This seems like a good trail for those that live in Moab. It is very close to town and meets up with the road at several points. I wouldn't recommend it to someone that is visiting because there are tons of other good trails with better views and isolation (this one just looks over the town). That being said, this trail was built very well and is excellent for a quick fix or if you don't have a car to get out to the more remote trails. As with all Moab trails there is no shade so try to finish before noon or start well into the afternoon, otherwise you will bake.
Thank |Really tech the whole way. Hard to get into the flow but once you do it's sweet!!! A lot of up an down and in and out
Thank |Don't under estimate the southend. In general the lines in many spots are not very forgiving. It is nice location close to town with pretty good views. With an intermediate rating a lot of people that consider themselves as intermediate riders will be scratching their heads in humility.
Thank |This trail is so fun and so well built it's hard to believe it's in town.
I prefer it south to north for the best flow and a little less climbing, not to mention food places within riding distance of the end. It's short enough to ride back to your car after your done.
It's all singletrack with a few technical sections. Overall it has good flow and is 100% ridable.
This is a new must-ride for any Moab trip!
Thank |Great trail to hit after you spent the morning somewhere else, or just to take a nice easy day to rest up. There really isn't any strenuous parts of this trail, just alot of tight manuvering. Can't imagine how many man hours were spent getting this trail ride ready.
Thank |I really appreciate the planning and work that went into this trail. It is short, but fun with lots of sharp turns and ups/downs. It's a great choice for a second ride of the day in Moab. The trail almost seems cobbled with the sandstone in places, making it look other-wordly.

Thank |This is a great piece of singletrack right next to town. It's not a fast trail, but rather a place to practice your low-speed technical maneuvering. There is exposure, but it's not like Porcupine exposure. I took my 11-yr old her on a 24" hardtail and he dug it. Although the scenery doesn't compare to some of Moab's classic rides, there are some great photo ops along the way and you really can't beat the convenience of this trail. Being new, the trail is nice and narrow. If you're tired of slickrock, give this techy little piece of singletrack a go.
Thank |I should have added above that the south end of this trail (the uphill end) is at the same trail head with the Hidden Canyon trail. A hideously steep trail that climbs the canyon wall and joins up on top with the Moab Rim Trail that originates on Kane Cr rd along the Colorado River- creating another loop option. -
As of 4-11 this trail is open but a couple problem sections are still being worked out. It is rideable but please take care around the crews and the areas they are working. I rate this trail an intermediate however it is one of them trails difficult to rate. While some may consider it fairly easy others will give it a Black Diamond because of the exposure on the steep slope. This is suited for riders ok with heights and narrow trails.
