Mountain Biking Mud Pond Loop
#19 of 138 mountain bike trails in Vermont
The Mud Pond East loop was built in the fall of 2002 by the Fellowship Of The Wheel
for the town of Williston. This a 3 mile loop, with an additional extension 1.5 mile
loop on the southern side that was added during the 2003 season. The lower half of the Mud Pond loop is a great place for beginning mountain bikers to get accustomed to single-track. The upper half of the loop is intermediate with some more challenging sections. The top (highest point) of the Mud Pond East Loop also marks the beginning of the Lake Iroquois connector which is approximately 6 miles of fun challenging single-track which ends at the Lake Iroquois parking lot.

* From I-89 Exit 12 - Williston/Hinesburg
* Northbound Exit - Right on to Route 2A North.
* Southbound Exit - Left on to Route 2A North.
* Go 0.7 miles on 2A North.
* Turn right on Route 2 East (go 2.2 miles)
* Turn right at stop sign on to Oak Hill Road ( go 0.2 miles)
* Turn left at South Road ( go 1.9 miles).
* Turn right on Mud Pond Road (go 0.1 miles) to parking area on right.
* From parking area backtrack on South Road 0.1 miles till you see
small wooden bridge over the drainage ditch, on your right with yellow sign/ black arrow at trailhead.
For those confused about the no biking signs, the parking is around the corner from the trail head. Park where the directions take you then make a left and the trail head is very obviously on your right.Thank |
As for the trails themselves they are fun, technically at times but always very flowy, I went extension loop, old school loop, the green trail, back to blue trail which leads to yellow, i highly recommend doing it backwards so you can hit the awesome drop your supposed to climb up. WIll i go back here maybe one more time, its fun for something different but I rather technical stuff like Carse hill or rasta man at perry hill. Definitely going to want full suspension for this ride so you can fly over everything

Twisty singletrack through nice, pine woods. Some roots and a few rocks thrown in to keep you honest! FOTC has done a nice job of creating a fun system of trail in a country park. The "new" extension (Cody's I think) is a fun, flowy set of trail. A great short xc ride near Burlington.Thank |

Mud Pond was a blast to ride on with a good mix of what I’d call “fun technical.” The terrain wasn’t too challenging but was enough to keep you bouncing and thinking while riding along – I strongly recommend the full 4.1 mile loop and taking some good eyes on some of the descents. FOTW does great work, especially the winding boardwalk and some of the berms on the downhill portions. This is a great ride for those “touring Vermont’s trails.” Add it in with Saxon Hill and other locals for a full day of singeltrack!Thank |
Another great trail for a quick ride. This one has an awesome downhill after the 15 minute climb to the top. The optional Advanced loop is fun too. Rolling really well and in good shape this year. Great for the beginner, but still fun for the more advanced rider.

Finally able to sit down and write a quick review here. For those who haven't been on it, it's mostly fairly easy to bike through, that is as long as you can handle roots.
Edit: After learning how to climb much more efficiently, the roots tend not to slow me down as much, also this time around I had time to do the "advanced" section of the trail the Fellow of The Wheel added on a couple years back.
