Trail Description
About this trail
The Midland Hills Trails are a few relatively new singletrack trails located near the Collegiate Peaks overlook. They run up to the old railroad grade/Midland Trail, but based on the kiosks I checked out, these few trails seem to be labeled as their own entity.
Setup as a loop with a spur (or a lariat, depending on where you start), these trails all pretty mellow for the most part, but they do have plenty of rocks and swoopy turns to keep things interesting!
Depending on how you access the trails, a great route is to descend Django, head back up towards fistful of Dollars, drop down and do an out-and-back to the KOA on the A Few Dollars More trail, and then finish climbing back to the top on Fistful of Dollars.

Review: This is a very entertaining intermediate trail system. It could use a few more miles, but what is here is top notch. The flow is nice and while it may be a bit much for a newb and won't challenge an expert, it should put a smile on most faces.

Review: This trail system is like Arkansas Hills Lite. The hills aren't as steep here as they are right out of Salida, the rocks aren't as gnarly, and there isn't as many miles of trails. However, the ecosystem is essentially the same as that of the Arkansas Hills, just located a bit further up river. So, the views are similar, the trees and vegetation are similar, the sandy soil and rocks are even similar. If only this trail system had more mileage, it would be well-worth a regular drive up from Salida to shred!

Note: these trails can be combined with the Whipple trail system via the Midland trail.
