Mountain Biking Markham Park

*****   Add a review
#4 of 281 mountain bike trails in Florida
#45 in the world

There's approximately 10 miles if you follow all the trails available. Conditions vary depending on which portion of the trail you're on. What you're actually riding on is the fill left from when they originally dug the lakes in the park, so conditions go from rocky in some areas to hard packed sand in the forested areas. For the majority though I'd say the trails are nicely packed sand. About the only warning I can give is that unless you enjoy swimming your bike through gigantic puddles, avoid the park after a good rainstorm. The lakes have a tendancy of overflowing into the trails when it storms.

Before you go
  • Drinking water
  • No E-bikes permitted
  • Fat biking allowed in winter
  • No Fee required
  • No Lift service
  • No Night riding allowed
  • Pump track
  • Restrooms
Getting there
Take I-595 get off on the 136th Avenue exit, this puts you on Westbound State Road 84. Continue W on SR-84 past 136th Avenue to the next light, Weston Road, and make a right there into Markham Park.

Rider questions

Q: This seems to be incorrectly located on the map. My map shows these trails in the Melbourne, FL area just south of Rockledge, but they appear to be in South Florida, west of Ft. Lauderdale. Can someone confirm this?
A: Markham park is West of Ft. Lauderdale, right off State Road 84.

Q: Planning visit to Florida and want to ride these trails-- Whose is best rental shop? Not finding alot of options.
A: there's a bike shop right across the street that's awesome. AJ's.

When it started to snow in the Northeast last week, we decided to high tail it to Florida for some more reasonable fall weather. This is the first of 4 videos we'll be posting in the coming weeks. We started just outside of Fort Lauderdale in Sunrise Florida. Markham Park is a lesser hyped trail than Virginia Keys, Santos, and Alafia. We think that may be because the locals want to keep it all to themselves... and we don't blame them!

    Reviewing Gun Range:

Considering this trail a double diamond, of any color, is a joke. I'm an intermediate rider who got through with little difficulty, walking a couple of short sections I wasn't anticipating, on my short travel bike. If this is a double (whatever color) diamond then what is the Portal in Moab considered? Fun, short, full featured trail rated way too high in difficulty because it's in a place where the Earth is flat. Ride w caution & sense, you'll be fine.

The trails were well maintained and were so much fun! Markham park has something for everyone. From super technical climbs to super flowy trails and some really fun jumps. Markham park has some super easy trails for people just learning to ride, and some super difficult trails for experts trying to improve their skills. I had a great time and would definitly return if I didn't live in PA.

5 star FL trail. No Mts here dudes. This park, after Alafia and Santos is the best we got.

Post Irma Cleanup the trails are 100% re-opened and riding fantastic. If anything some of the alterations forced by Irma have made certain areas even more fun and interesting to ride. Route 66 trail has just gotten a new boardwalk on its advanced section as well.

Fun trails to ride. I always have a blast here. Man made obstacles for downhill and technical rides. Watch out for armadillos!

Unfortunately, Markham had massive damage from hurricane Irma. Volunteer crews went in today, and will again tomorrow and are working very hard to clear it but in many places it is impossible to tell where the trail even was. Hopefully we can get it open soon, but a lot of work will have to be done.

I enjoyed the expert trains, there were just a couple of sections that were very risking for the nonexpert.

Hands down the best mountain biking trails in Florida. It may not be the most popular (like Santos) but definitely the best! Very technical but flows at times. It accommodates to all riders of different skills! Definitely check out the gun range trail in the back for Pro/Expert riders.

First time out here today, so pumped on it. Fast sections, tech sections, jumps, birms, everything you want in mountain biking without the mountain since we're in Florida. Definitely check it out '????'????
