Mountain Biking Leaders Park

****   Add a review
#23 of 42 mountain bike trails in South Dakota
#7,895 in the world

A fun little network of singletrack with many challenges and obstacles including dock drops, skinnies, small rock gardens and some fairly steep sections. There are four linked loops(Beginner, Intermediate, Bob's Bypass, Expert) that all feed from the same origin. All loops run clockwise and utilize the same set of switchbacks to climb back to the origin. Looking at the trail map prior to starting will help riders understand how to link the trail together. Local mountain bike group Falls Area Singletracks(FAST) maintains the trails.

This is a very good city trail. Many interesting obstacles and technical areas to practice on. The outer loop is a great cardio ride and it just keeps coming at you with challenges and fun fast rewards. A lot of the trail is one way so you can let it rip.

Trail is very short but worth a ride. Several technical areas built in. The trail flows nice and is directional so you don't have to worry as much about running into someone on the downhill.

Leaders Park is a very nice, easily accessible park. It is between a neighborhood and the freeway. No parking lot, but you can park on the street. I parked a semi-tractor there with no issues, and easy exit out.
Actual trail entrance is along the south treeline, well marked, and directional.
Trails are mostly hardpack dirt, lots of ups and downs, uphill switchbacks, easy to technical trails.
Several bridges, rock gardens, very little mud and loose soil.
Watch out for where the trail goes between 2 close trees, protruding rocks and stumps.

OK - Leaders Park single track trail is very very short. But other than length it has a little bit of most things an intermediate to fairly skilled single track rider needs for a fun and challenging ride. I enjoy taking a few loops at a time and testing my skills on most of the obstacles. If you are in the Sioux Falls area, looking to satisfy a single track fix for an hour or two you should check out Leaders. (I lived in Los Angeles for several years and got out on some fantastic single track trails with amazing views and extremely long stretches...Sioux Falls is not L.A. - I've learned to adjust my expectations and enjoy what's in my backyard.)

Leaders Park is a fun trail to make a couple laps, it has some hard climbs, a fun drop, and some decently fast descents. I just visited for the weekend but would come back and ride if I am ever in the area again.

Having moved here from the Black Hills, I can't help but be bummed by the lack of places to ride in this area. I'm glad that we at least have Leaders to get a quick fix between trips to more extensive bike trails. The loops are fun and there are some pretty good climbs and switchbacks to keep your legs in shape on the most difficult trail. The intermediate trail is the best for fast and flowing track. The uphills are a bit of a gravel grind but that just comes with the geography of the area. FAST does a great job of keeping the trails well maintained. I like to do a single loop on the easy trail to warm up and then a couple of loops on the intermediate or advanced. You can easily put in several miles if you don't mind the same scenery.

Fun single track with some areas to challenge novice and intermediate riders. Well designed and is a great use of the available space. Glance at the trail prior to heading in, as it could be slightly confusing if new to the area.

For someone who's rode real mountain trails and only lives a block away from this park. I drive 2.5hrs to Omaha to get my single track fix.

Entry level trail. Right next to a loud interstate. For someone who's rode real mountain trails this doesn't even scratch the surface. Don't waste your time unless you bring a Unicycle.

Short but sweet flowy trail. Trails trimmed up good and free of weeds, so no branches in the face or itchy legs.

It's short distance but a bit challenge. I brought some beginners bikers and they considered it's difficult. It's nice scenery and hat off to FAST for this place.

This is a great little work out trail with decent flow. Couple of fun intermediate downhill section with some obstacles. Looks like there is still a lot of building going on. I can only imagine this trail is going to get better. There is a lot of potential for this relatively small space

Great trail! It has everything. Good climbs to nice jumps. The most advanced part is very entertaining.

This trail is very new and with time will become a very good trail to ride. Hard to get lost in the tracks because it is not a very lengthy track. The track however lacks signs as to where the three skill levels are. I am pretty new to mtb and was trying to avoid the "expert" track but ended up riding all 3 sections. Of course I did have to walk some of the more difficult climbs/descents. I saw what to be an entrance point in the expert section but beware, if your not skilled this is very dangerous since it begins with a sharp downhill descent and you'll have to make a sharp left turn to avoid going over the edge and into the water.
