Mountain Biking El Moro / Erection Loop

****   Add a review
#280 of 1,005 mountain bike trails in California
#3,681 in the world

the trail head starts through a metal gate. the first single track, Marie Calendars, is technical and not well marked. it's a fun trail with some ups and downs. you will come to a fire road crossing and from there need to take that down the hill then up a steep fire road. you will then reach a fork and need to take the left fork. about 50 yards beyond the fork you will dead end and will make another left onto a fire road. you will ride for about 1 mile on fire roads then come to a steep downhill (easy to miss so be on the lookout). At the bottom of that trail you will hit another fire road, take a right and start climbing. when you reach the top again the road will T off and you will need to go left. you will intersect with another trail, keep going. then you will reach a fork. I like to go left and take the fenceline singletrack however if you are pressed for time you can take the right fork and take the fire road back to the car (save about 5 minutes). If you take the left fork you will go through a gate and up a hill. at the top of the hill there is a sign and an entrance to a single track. Take that right. follow that single track, you will cross over 2 fire road crossings, when you come to your 3rd the trail ends and you need to turn right going back through another gate. Make a left at the first T you come to and head back to the car.

Getting there
from the 73 freeway heading South exit Newport Coast (toll exit) and proceed to the top of the hill. Turn left at Ridge Park Road and go to the top of that hill. You will pass a stop sign, keep going to the Cul-de-sac at the end of the road.
