Mountain Biking Clay Mountain
#60 of 70 mountain bike trails in Mongolia
These trails run up and down the last forested slopes of Bogd Uul on the very far SE tip of the mountain range. The trails run from the grassy bottom slopes up into the forests and high ridge tops. The figure eight layout allows for the trails to be ridden in a variety of ways. With an average slope of 10% and max slope of 25% or more, most of the climbs are doable but in the "red zone". Most of the downhills are screamers. The trails are two tracks and faint two tracks. Though there are 7.3 miles (11.8 km) of trail as laid out on the trail map, there are various other side trails to explore. I would guess there is about 10 miles of connected trail in the area.
Clay Mountain is the highest peak on the southern end of the area. It is more of a elongated high ridge top more than a peak. The ridge run generally north and south, and the top sits between the southern most loop of the Clay Mountain Trail and the Upper Basin Short Loop Trail.

You can access this trail from various points. First, you can access it from the Clay Mountain Portal trail (see listing). You can also access from the far SE end of the Upper Traverse Trail (see listing). Finally, you can access it from the dirt road running along the base of Bogd Uul on the east side and south side of the area. On the east side you can pick up a couple of trails at the bottom. On the south side you can drive all the way to the top of the upper ridge and start from on top if you like.
