Mountain Biking Alexandra Airport Trail

The Alexandra Airport Trail is a 10km cross-country style trail that weaves a circuit around the airport runway, here and there descending off the river terrace, then climbing back up.
It's never very steep but it is gravelly in places and often quite narrow. You won't find MTB technical features like berms, rollers, jumps and so on.
It's quite scenic with views over the Alexandra basin. Ride it clockwise. Blue markers on short posts show the way.
Alexandra has a trail for everyone. The i-site has an excellent mountain bike trails brochure with descriptions and maps. Boot Hill is for beginners and families. The Airport Trail is good for intermediate fitness laps. Flat Top Hill ( www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/flat-top-hill.html) has great technical trails including some grade 6 tracks with horrendous rock drops. And then there is the undocumented and unmarked labyrinth of superb rocky trails on private land off Little Valley Road. If you ride out from Alexandra take the Rail Trail towards Clyde till you come to the airport turnoff. In less than 100 metres you see the trail heading up the hill on the right side of the road.
If you drive out from Alexandra, head towards Clyde on highway 8 till you see the sign to the airport on your right. That will take you up Airport Road. Park at the top of the hill on the left just before the road curves round to the right. The distance is about 6km from downtown Alexandra.
