The new 2017 fatboy has the M5 aluminum frame all cables internally routed. 1 x 10 (11-40) set up stock with race face 30t chainring and race face aeffect crank. Brakes are pretty good. X7 shifter and derailleur is fairly smooth. 15mm front 12mm rear. Bike weighs 30lb stock. Glad I didn't buy the 2016 model and held out for the 2017. For a 2000 dollar bike Specialized gave you a great package.
Pros Climbs like a mountain goat, relatively light for being aluminum and having 4.6" tires on it.
Cons Haven't found much wrong with the bike. Could come with a better derailleur than X7
Now that I have owned this for a year, I am amazed by everything I can do with it as well as how ultra comfortable I feel on it. This bike is really peppy and I can zip along like a 29er on pavement (just lack the male leg power my hubby has). I HIGHLY recommend this bike to all.
Pros durability
front fork locks out
great crankset
The guys (and girls) at Specialized could spend a little more at the parts for this fatboy. The overall quality of the parts is poor compared to other brands.
Pros Light and stiff frame
Good crank
Very good tires
Had my fb for 2 years now. It's my all around all terrain bike. Great for steep climbing. Snow San mud awesome. It's a bouncy ride full of fun and smiles. Not too good on technical or fast downhills.
Overall I'm very pleased with the '16 Specialized Fat Boy Comp Carbon. If you're looking for a well-designed full carbon fat bike for trail riding, snow riding and racing, you should give the offering from Spec a good glance. If you're looking for a platform to use for bike packing....this is not the bike for you.Pros- Same full carbon frame as the Expert and S-Works builds
- The Red frame is STUNNING!!
- Decent component spec
- ICE TECH rotors
- Internal Cabling
- Ground Control 4.0" tiresCons- Internal Cable routing not well supported internally (had to stuff some dense foam in the down tube to stop the cables from rattling against the frame - annoying)
- Stout wheels a little difficult to convert to tubeless (have to seal the seams all the way to the top of the rim)
- Press-fit bottom bracket (no issues with it, just not a fan - personal preference)
I would highly recommend the Specialized Fatboy as a high quality, great value bike until you're looking for carbon. The only reason it's not a 5 is because there are now carbon bikes and the brake system needs upgraded pads from the stock set-up.
Pros Very capable, durable, and well performing. Shifts really well with the grip shifters. It is relatively light compared to some of the first fat bikes (its about 32-33 lbs stock).
Cons Standard OEM brake pads should be upgraded if you're going to ride it on dirt trails in the summer months. Winter was fine.
I have had this bike just a few days and rode it all over town on roads, sidewalks, rutted dirt roads, soft snow, mud, slop and trails. It was a lot of fun.
Pros bluto front fork
dropper post
hidden tools built into bike parts and accessories
not to heavy
Love this bike! Finished fall season on it which was a blast. I haven't ridden my FS since I got it because the Fatboy is just so much fun! And now that it's been in the snow, there is no biking season anymore. Just days I don't feel like going outside!
This Bike is a total hoot, I would prefer to ride it all the time which you can , it tackles long boring rides and handles off-road with authority NOW! What to do with the other 2 Bikes I already have.
Pros Lightweight, comfortable, rolls nicely very controllable
Cons had to replace the saddle and maybe replace some sub pro components still doesn't degrade my review
Pros Rode a FatBack 4-5 times before buying the FatBoy Expert. Love it's added traction with the 4.6 tires. Handles like a dream in snow, and not in snow, climbs/descends rocks so you barely notice them. Run 4-6 lbs of air, I weigh 125.
Cons None so far. Oh miss my shifters still a bit, it has grip shifts.
