			Mountain Biking Hikuwai Loop

#124 of 194 mountain bike trails in South Island

On the slopes above the Lake Wanaka Outlet beside Albert Town there is a reserve called the Hikuwai Conservation Area. Winding through the Manuka bushes of the reserve there is a bendy mountain bike trail called the Hikuwai Loop. It's grade 3 and curvy but has few other fun features apart from a few berms, jumps and squeezes.
There are dozens of unofficial trails threading through the bushes - keep your eye out for the little signs that will lead you round the loop.

There are several places to get onto the Hikuwai Loop. There are two well signed access points along the Wanaka Outlet Trail.; another on Aubrey Road in Albert Town opposite Kanuka Rise, and two more on Gunn Road opposite Lagoon Avenue.

In Wanaka this is the trail for improving grade 2 riders. It is pleasant threading through the Manuka bushes and much of the trail is at grade 2 level and can be ridden quite fast as you follow its meanders.
