Sentinel Stoke from Transition Bikes on Vimeo.
Transition launched the aluminum-framed Sentinel just a few short months ago, but they’ve quickly followed it up with a carbon version. Since the Sentinel was a brand new model for Transition, there are no differences between the bikes other than the frame material.

That said, swapping to carbon cut a shit ton of weight off the frame. A size-medium aluminum Sentinel frame with a shock and hardware weighs a downright portly 9.3lbs Anyone else’s legs just go weak? The same size frame in carbon is 6.8lbs, a full 2.5lbs lighter. Daaaaaaaamn! Dropping that much heft brings the complete builds into the sub-30lb range, a reasonable weight by today’s standards.
We covered the geometry and build kit options back in August when Transitioned debuted the aluminum Sentinel, but here are some highlights:
- 160mm front travel / 140mm rear travel
 - 64° head tube angle
 - 76.3° seat tube angle (size large)
 - 475mm reach (size large)
 - 435mm chainstay length
 - 1247mm wheelbase (size large)
 - Boost spacing
 - Threaded BB
 - Internal cable routing
 - Clearance for 29×2.5″ tires
 - Room for water bottle inside front triangle

The carbon Sentinel comes as a frame and shock only for $2,999, with a SRAM GX build for $4,999, or an X01 kit for $5,999. The top build gets Fox suspension front and rear, a SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain, SRAM Code brakes, E*Thirteen wheels, and Maxxis Minion tires.
Transition says the carbon bikes will be available in early 2018.
