What’s your jam? Trailhead parking lots sing with a chorus of car stereo speakers in the summer sun, with hordes of riders enjoying a song or three to get stoked or focused before rolling out. Since we all have different tastes in tunes, sharing your tonal-fuel with fellow readers might ignite fresh inspiration for some of us.
The birds, crickets and frogs. I hate it when my bike decides to squeak or chatter in the middle of my zone.
I’ll have to vote for Trance music. No it’s not techno, and even bought many would place it into the “EDM” category, Trance was around way before that acronym.
+5 for trance! Above and Beyond Group Therapy playlists always kill it for me on the way to the trail head (or on long road rides.) Long, melodic songs, easy to get in the zone.
What the heck is Shoegazer?
I don’t listen to music while trail riding, but I often do when road riding (country/small town, very little traffic). I went with Rock n Roll, but Country is right up there too. I like a variety of high energy music while working out.
Heavy metal for me, all the time.
Lamb of God is an excellent pre-ride band to listen to. I think their best pump-up songs are: Contractor, Everything to Nothing, Set to Fail, Pathetic, and Redneck.
I never listen to music while I’m riding, and really dislike others doing it. Headphones block out other noises and speakers are annoying for everyone else.
+1 for metal!. While I don’t listen to music on the trails I’ll typically blast the newer metal stuff on the car ride to/from.

Podcasts! I’m usually listening to an episode of Comedy Bang Bang, We Hate Movies, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, How Did This Get Made, etc. on my way to the trails.
Classic Rock baby
Bagpipes! Certainly gets the blood pumping a little faster.
Grunge rock. I could listen to Nirvana all day
None, I enjoy nature and the ride.
Rock and Roll but PHISH and WIDESPREAD PANIC to be specific. Surrender to the Flow and The Music Only Knows What the People Feel!
Would it be limited to one genre?? Heaven’s no!
When I plan a ride, I plan several playlists from my music server and upload em to the player. Pack the Grado headphone amp and RS1’s along to keep it as clean as a proper listening room. Sometimes, it is just a blessing to tune out the planet!
Not many rides get this treatment but it can be very enjoyable to break the routine.
