New Year, New Mountain Bike Trails [January 2021]

An update on the newest mountain bike trail openings from Colorado to New Zealand.

Happy new trail year! This month we have a few trail openings to report, and expect many more to come as the year progresses.

Acorn Creek to Darrington Connector (Pilot Hill, California): While this one technically opened last month, it’s a welcome addition to the trail network outside Auburn, California that’s home to well-known trails like Salmon Falls and the South Fork American River trails. This 1.5-mile singletrack trail connects Acorn Creek and the Darrington Connector trail, giving mountain bikers more ways to link everything together.

Greens Estate (Palmerston North, New Zealand): This privately-owned bike park features freeride and downhill trails with tons of features for riders to session all day long. The park hosts events and is also open to the public at designated times.

Lion Trail, Red Rock Canyon (Colorado Springs, Colorado): This new trail in the Red Rock Canyon open space may only be half a mile long, but it’s already one of the most scenic trails that’s open to bikes, running along the ridge of one of the park’s prominent hogbacks.

Organ Donor (Victoria, British Columbia): This popular trail at Mount Work has been reworked to be flowier and more sustainable. Officially re-opened January 17 following more than a thousand hours of volunteer work organized by the South Island Mountain Biking Society.
