2021 Commencal Meta AM Slackens Head Tube Nearly 2°, Promises Reduced Leg Fatigue

Commencal is on a tear this month, announcing updated Meta Trail models last week, and now updated Meta AM frames today. The 2021 Meta AM introduces big changes to the bike’s geometry, kinematics, and overall look and finish.

The new Meta AM slackens the head tube angle from 65.5° down to 63.6° while steepening the seat tube angle to 78.5°. Commencal also stretched the reach significantly. For example, the reach on size large frames was 468mm; now it’s 495mm. The fork offset has been reduced as well.

Interestingly, Commencal says the updated frame design features a more compact rear triangle to reduce both heel and calf interference. While rare, “calf bang” and “heel rub” issues do exist for certain riders with some frame designs, so this is welcome news.

The front and rear suspension travel remains at 170/160mm, respectively, with a double row of Enduro Bearings in the linkages for improved stiffness. Commencal claims the updated suspension kinematics “enable a bike that is both more dynamic and more comfortable during suspension travel” which “results in less rider leg fatigue.”

Finally, the 2021 Meta AM features a lower seat tube mast to allow for longer-travel dropper posts, along with improved cable routing and bottle cage access.

The frame is only offered in aluminum, and Commencal Meta AM builds are priced between $2,299 and $4,899. A bare frame, without shock, is priced at $1,399. Pre-orders can be placed via the Commencal website now.
