If you follow Singletracks regularly, you know our weekly mountain bike surveys are a lot of fun. After running dozens of polls we decided to look back at the data, and to pick out the most interesting results.
The following infographic focuses on gear-related questions only; look for another later this year that will cover other topics.
Note: our surveys aren’t scientific, our data isn’t perfect, and we took some liberties interpreting your responses. Most surveys received more than 1,000 responses, with several cracking 5,000+ replies. But ultimately every one of these charts deserves a proper study in its own right.

Cool infographic. I’m really surprised to see a dropper post recieved more votes than disc brakes as the most important component. Surely people wouldn’t choose rim brakes and dropper over disc brakes with a conventional seat post, right? I know we’re all hyped right now about the benefits of our droppers. And I’ll admit I take my disc brakes for granted, as well as most of the other components listed. I’m just not confident I’d be able to fully utilize my dropper if I had to run rim brakes. In fact, I’m confident I wouldn’t. The times I’m dropping my seat are usually the same times I’m most reliant on my brakes (and should be glad they aren’t rim brakes!).
I like the info graphic format too. On the same topic I’m surprised tires got so few votes, without good tires I don’t think I’d have the control at speed needed for any of the other parts to be necessary.
