thanks yall. I think Ill start with changing the stem, and upgrading to hydraulic brakes for now.
The existing brakes are so bulky and its just a world of difference hydraulic vrs mechanical.
If anyone has any suggestions on the gear let me know.

? can you change the length of the chainstay ..noob question I know.

Bonsai sorry to hear your that health issues has you away from the trails. hope you have a speedy recovery! where is GFT? never heard of it. I was watching some videos on the Jimmy Cotton the description on it looks intimidating. My plan for 2012 is to hit as many trails I can in Florida then take my first mtb trip to Colorado or Utah. I’ll probably freak out at those high altitudes being used to living under the sea level.

thanks man, so any ideas on what components to upgrade to make it lighter in the front, maybe
its just the geometry of the xc, I honestly cant even lift it to do a wheely. Thats one thing about Jamis bikes they are heavy. Next year I plan to purchase a new lighter bike five years is a good number for an upgrade. 😃 Just wish everything wasnt so fawking expensive.

Yo Bonsai what trails in Florida do you ride at? Im from Miami.
I took a trip to Alfaia River and I was super impressed with that place
cant wait to go back. I love that North ridge trail.

yeah I dont know I guess it happens sometimes in the assembly line, I know giant has some problems with the 29r when it first came out too. So far I have never had any problems with my 06 jamis xlt.
then again Im not dropping off anything crazy. I mentioned the Jamis parts cause they just look heavy. The head set worries me cause it says not for aggressive riding.

should have mentioned that I ride in Florida, no big drops or anything like that. The parks we ride in are man-made trails some are technical but nothing that would break the frame. Anyhow the fork is a
rockshox recon tora. I think probably any components that are Jamis parts are not the best and should be swapped out for something else. thanks

yeah that is what I was worried about. I saw a picture of broken one and i dont really want a piece that comes off to bad that they dont make a full face with a ton of vents..

Thats cool how old is your son? I saw the pics you posted and he kicks ass.
I been trying to get my son into riding he is 13, he gets intimidated easily with the technical stuff and anything that looks dangerous. I try to just get him out there so he can just get comfortable riding.

I have stayed away from drops or anything that looks to hard..I always take the other route! Honestly some of those expert trails at Markham look crazy. maybe some day Ill have the skills and balls to drop off a platform, but for now I just enjoy riding what I can.

I have not been to Amelia in years, last time I went it was just getting started. I should check it out..dam wrist is keeping me down! 😈

hey new to the site been riding for a couple of years, and wanting to get more into it. I am from Miami and usually go to Oleta and Markham. I want to hit up all the good trails in Florida
(Santos will be my first trip)and eventually get out of the state and go to some Mountains!! But first I need to heal from a fuck up that fractured my wrist again, fell of a inclined ramp, was going to slow and just flipped over.last time it was rollerblading though!anyhow I ride a Jamis dakar XLT2.0. looking forward to getting back out there!!peace

hey chilipepper, fan of the RHCP or just chili peppers in general?

Im from North Miami Beach, so Oleta is my backyard and Markham is pretty close as well. I usually just go to Oleta out of convenience and occasionally Markham, but I was planning on getting more weekend visits to other parks, have not been to Santos but I am looking forward to a camping/riding trip in the future.

Right now I am just waiting to heal and obsessively looking here and other sitse about spots to mtb in the US. I just want to get out there and experience the outdoors maybe this summer I can take off and do something like Colorado or Utah. Ill post on the SE forum as well.peace

thanks for the welcome eastwood…how are the trails up in Massachusetts?
I wouldn’t mind finding some peeps to ride with down in Florida cause I am pretty much a solo rider.
I have taken my son 13yrs old riding with me a few times but he is not that comfortable in some of the trails.
