Just keeping the forum fresh so you don’t go through 6 pages to see the latest bike. Here’s my bike, took my life savings to get it…
I’ve added fenders for riding around the neighborhood in rain (I’m 15 and this is my primary/only transport!) and much mud, scratches, duck tape, and new tires and grips there’s my bike. -
June 2, 2007 at 15:58 #70438
Not a bad start, bro. 😎
It’s awesome you spent your savings on that Fuel instead of wasting it on a car.
I wish I had stuck with bikes when I turned 16 instead of blowing my cash on a car that just ended up making me more broke…. It helped with the ladies, but I rapidly found out that girls who will only date a guy because he’s got a car ain’t worth spit. And I never lived far enough away from my jobs that I [u:okd65j30]needed[/u:okd65j30] a car.
Now all you need to do is find a girl that loves to ride, and everything will be right with the world. 😼
My wife and I use those same fenders, they’ll keep your frame nice & pretty too. I dig that color blue that Trek & Fisher uses.[/u] -

Here is my ALL in one bike it’s my main transport bike to go to work everyday and with a tire change it’s a XC machine… It’s mostly stock… My next upgrade will be a pair of avid SD7 to replace my generic Vbrakes
-
June 15, 2007 at 17:45 #70440
Why not get BB7s? Those hubs look like they can mount rotors.
-
June 15, 2007 at 22:05 #70441
they do but a set of sd7 with Ti levelers is 80$ shipped + low maintenance + i do XC and road so no need for $$$ disc brakes here if i would do a lot of XC with DH then maybe… Anyways the SD7 are as good as a mechanical disc brake…

Here is my noble steed. Her name is Carla. I’ve always loved bikes and whatnot, but this was my first real big investment into it (comparing with Wal-Mart bikes, etc.) The only things I don’t like is the crank and the rims. The crank wobbles after a few hard rides and the rims are no-name and they have bent easily on me. 😢
-
August 13, 2007 at 19:07 #70443
Look for a set of Alex rims. They’re lightweight, but have stood up to a lot of abuse when I had them. Find out what your bottom bracket shell size is, and get a new BB w/ crankset. Bottom brackets are cheap, and a set of Truvativ FireX cranks are a good start.
Also, you might want to go with a 100mm stem w/ no rise, that stem you’ve got is a cheapo touring setup, and a different stem will turn your bike into a totally different experience. Switch to some clip-in pedals, and you’ll be set! 😃 -
August 16, 2007 at 16:58 #70444
Handlebars and a stem are next on my list. I might be paranoid but I’m wondering if my bars are slightly bent now. I took a nasty fall a few weeks back. What would you recommend other than just 100 mm? What sort of brand, etc?

I am still a Clydesdale I was 238 at the docs but I had big lunch before that.
the reason I was at the docs is because there is something up with me. I can’t lose weight, unless I get food poisoning 😮. But at least I am not gaining any tho. But thats thanks to 100 to 250 miles a week of riding on none race weeks. 😛 I can’t cut anymore calories or I would not be able to function.
I got a race tomorrow, my class has to do three laps for a grand total of 30 miles, and it is going to hot out.And the trail is pretty muddy. I think I got a chance of winning it. You may be talking to the future USAC Michigan State Champ Clydesdale.

Just picked this puppy up at free flite in Marietta Georgia. Haven’t hit the trails with it but man its been fun doing a little urban riding with it. Have nothing bad to say about it!
Oh, and the guys at free flite are simply awesome! Michelle and Travis were great to work with and very accommodating. It was worth the 1000 mile round day trip. You guys really need to do something about 75 between Macon and Adel though, thats just ridiculous in the rain..😀

Here are my two rides:
08 Trek 4300 and 07 Trek Fuel EX6.
I just recently picked up the Fuel, and I love it. I keep the HT for the road riding I do occasionally, and use the FS when I ride out in Alafia, Santos, etc. I plan on heading west in May, so the FS is going with me. Moab and Fruita should be comfy with the Fuel. -

There seems to be a lot of bikes in this price range, $22- 2500, almost too many choices, High end bikes w/low end components or low end bikes w/high end compnents, this model seemed to have decent frame and components for the $ spent.
Myself after having a couple bikes want to get back to the VPP style rear suspension and I want adjustable forks- no more of the ‘one tension fits all riders regardless of their weight’ front ends for me. So really, the FOX components, frame style and the Canondale name has me sold, in the price range Im looking at. -

After 21 years I’ve decided to retire my Specialized Stumpjumper Comp and buy a Full suspension ride.
Due to availability I’ve decided on a Haro Extreme X6 Comp. So far Im very pleased with it. The transition from a rigid to full suspension ride was a little bit more difficult than I expected but after a few rides the Haro has swayed me.

Thx Steve.
I’m happy with the new Bike. The Marzocchi 55RS shocks seem too soft, my 220lbs sitting flat sinks her almost 3 inches. All in all a very solid rig though. The hydraulic brakes are simply fantastic. My brake points have been drastically reduced. I’m still tweaking the shocks but the more I ride the closer I can get to a perfect setup.

Dude, that bike is freakin awsome. It just screams the roots of mtn. biking, and I cant believe you’ve been riding that thing for 21 years. You need a medal. When I bought my 07′ stumpjumper, one of the biggest reasons I picked it was because the front and rear suspension could be locked out so I can ride it like rigid on the trails and then have some suspension for the downhill stuff so I can have the best of both worlds.I dont even use my suspension on technical sections.I have been planning on building a rigid specific bike but cant quite come up with money just yet.
You’ll have to review your two bikes with all the details of the differences from your experiences making the change from rigid to full susser.Pretty please????hahaha.p.s….Hold onto that bike and dont sell it,but if you do please let me know before you do.

Hey Mitch,
What is your sag?
If you have 25%-28% sag, then you have the correct spring, then you just need to boost compression. If your sag is higher than stated, get new spring. I think that they only make one spring for this shock, but not quite sure bro.[/quote:3ctez74d]
Hi Mongoose,
Getting info on these Marzochi shocks has been difficult to say the least. How would I boost compression? I only have a single adjustment for rebound. Stronger springs I would guess is my only option but I can;t find anything about upgrading the stock springs. Anyone have any other ideas?
The Fox Van R rear shock works perfectly.

I don’t think I ever posted a pic of my rebuilt Liquid.
Originally just wanted an updated drivetrain.
Had fun rebuilding her and got carried away.
Ended up replacing everything but the seatpost clamp.
Murphy decided he wanted to be in the pic from the side.
Rebuilt with a full XT drivetrain and Ritchey cockpit.
A 145mm Nixon with 20mm through axle finishes the steering.
Swapped out the old brakes for some BB7s and put some flashy new Wind Cutter rotors on it.
Thomson seatpost and WTB Rocket V saddle keep the rump right.
Pictured with my beater set of "freeride" wheels. -

Ok, here’s my new ride that I just put into service this spring.
I bought the frame from a local guy via ebay, and then spent the rest of the winter tracking down components.(Yes, I’ve since removed the yellow sticker)
And not to forget the old hardtail I started on:

Nice rig and the home made all grain brewing system look great. Did you weld the stand yourself? Been brewing since the 90’s, won some awards too. Noticed the bottles off to the left. I only keg except for competition. What did you brew.

yeah crazy huh, i had a 05 specialized enduro and got in to a accident and the frame got tweaked pretty bad, i was going to get a 09 enduro until i saw that freedrive system on the mongoose and went out for a demo and it felt better to me than the fsr link from specialized so i got the mongoose and havent looked back 😃

How are you liking your Wahoo? I have the 09 Wahoo without the disc brakes, upgrading them to Avid BB7’s/Mavic EN321 disc/Shimano XT hubs in January. Of your upgrades what have you liked most? What has missed the mark?[/quote:y0luttw1]
Sorry for the late reply.
It was ok for a first bike, but i had gotten the itch for full suspension and stopped riding it toward the end of the summer after replacing pretty much everything on it.
I would say the best thing i did to it was get rid of the crappy fork. Stuck a Fox F100 RL on it couldn’t believe the difference. Even though it wasn’t G2, i thought it still handled good, probably better.

I have already started gutting it. I changed out the wheelset, added Avid BB7’s and just upgraded the Suntour fork to the Rock Shox Tora SL that comes on the Tassajara. I’m looking at a full replacement of the drivetrain after this upcoming season. I think it’s a great bike for a hardtail and will be even better once I finish upgrading the stock componetry. I’m not sure when or if I will go for a full suspension rig. I’m going to try out some XC races this summer and see how they go.
Thanks for the reply. BTW what are you riding now?

Is that an ’06 Nixon on your ride Chili?
-
February 15, 2010 at 19:04 #70521
They are awesome forks! Have the ’06 Super Intrinsic version on one of my bikes and love it. Was thinking about opening her up just to see what makes her tick even though I have never had a problem with her in 3 years of riding. They really do take anything you throw at them and simply smile and ask for more.
-
February 15, 2010 at 19:31 #70522
No. I think the SPV was only available on TPC versions. The Intrinsics use an air cartridge that ramps up at the end of the forks travel and gives it a smooth feel on bigger hits.
Originally bought the fork with the intentions of doing more FR but never really got into that style that much. Still love it as an aggresive trail fork. Really soaks up rocks and makes you [i:195jfvkm]want[/i:195jfvkm] to get airborne.

My ’08 Dawg after my last ride of the ’09 season (mid-November, here in VT)
Currently, she’s all apart on my workstand/bench getting refurbed and getting some trick new components for the ’10 season! Goal for this season is sub-30 pounds (currently around 32.)
My first full-susser (and second Kona). So far I love it….it was close to three times what I’ve ever spent on a bike before.

Nice Kona! 😃
Thanks! It’s really one of the best "do-it-all" bikes I’ve ever ridden. Climbs like a monkey, descends like a bat-outta-hell, and I’ve hucked it off a few good kickers and drops and it’s never complained (other than tacoing a front wheel on a botched soft landing). It may not be the most sophisticated design, or the lightest/strongest, but it’s chock full o’ fun, which is what I like.
And SwampCobra, it’s a trifecta…I agree that color combo is sick!

8valvegrowl how do you like those pedals you have on your kona?
was thinking of getting some, is it easy to ride them not clipped in? i love the efficiency of the clip but sometimes they are just far to dangerous to be locked in…

Way to one up me wuznme!
Nice Dawg Dee…How do you like it? My goal is to build mine up to almost Dawg Supreme spec…
FBTrek321: ChiliPepper nailed it….the Mallet is a really good pedal. It’s easy to get in and out of (especially on a bail), and is pretty grippy to ride on without being clipped in. Sheds mud easily too.

Thanx dgaddis & Chilipepper ! Its at my LBS right now, being "geared". I’m gonna take the SS parts and use them on my other project, a Santa Cruz Chameleon.

Haha…. so far so good. I just got it recently so I only have a couple of rides on it. It’s been a dozen years or so since I’ve ridden regularly. Can’t wait for the weather to improve here in CT.

Love that Yeti! I almost ended up on a 575 instead of this one-
An ‘08 Tomac Snyper 140-1
Still mostly stock other than the Joplin seat post, a new set of Race Face XC cranks/ rings/ bottom bracket, and a ‘heavy duty cause you ride like an animal’ (according to Tomac) replacement swingarm.
I picked up a 2.35 Kenda Blue Groove tire from the rep a couple weeks ago that is just a grippin SOB!
Note there are thorns on everything here! Am so tired of flats, am running slime tubes now which help but will be switching over to Stans Notubes if I stay in the area.
