October 1, 2012 at 07:35 #112980PLAINFIELD TWP (WZZM) — West Michigan took another step Saturday towards becoming a premiere destination for outdoor sports.
The Western Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance used a chainsaw to cut the ribbon on the new Merrell Biking Trail. It’s located just outside of Rockford in Plainfield Township.
The multi-purpose trail will soon stretch for eight miles and offer something for bikers of all fitness levels.
"It’s an intermediate trail" said Trail Coordinator Rick Plite. "It has expert sections, but everything has a bypass."
The Greater Grand Rapids area has a growing reputation for mountain biking and other outdoor sports. In 2010, "Outside" magazine named Grand Rapids as one of the nation’s best towns for mountain biking.
