I have an opportunity to buy one of these with stock components in nearly new condition for $500. I’m new to mountain biking and want to get something that will last a long time and be easy to upgrade and maintain. I’d appreciate any advice on whether this bike is a decent deal, and whether developments in component technology since 2013 have already made this bike difficult to upgrade/maintain.
I have an old Specialized Rockhopper (~2000) that I’ve used mostly to commute but wanted to start taking on trails. I found that technology has really left this old bike behind. I’m OK with the 26″ wheels, but it seems like upgrading any part of the drivetrain would require an upgrade of the whole thing, and I’m not certain if the frame can even take what’s out there now.
Thanks for any advice! Stock components are listed below.
